A Letter To Everyone Who Is Struggling Right Now In His Or Her Life ...
We all have them. You have them too.
You may have health problems. Financial. Social or relationship ones.
And you despise them. We all do. Who the heck wants to stay awake at night, knowing that something is wrong and that things may get even worse.
Not knowing how you are going to pay the bills next month … or if you’ll ever get to your desired destination, desired goal.
But here’s the thing about problems.
These are like weights you lift in the gym. When you have problems, you grow. Consider them like a test. It requires that you give more of yourself than you usually do to fix them.
Does this mean that you should welcome problems in your life? Theoretically yes. Practically … hell no!
But you can at least understand the benefit in them. You can understand that every time life throws you a punch, you learn to hit back or to keep your guard up.
You learn to become a stronger, more skilled, more powerful person.
I hate when things go bad in my life. But I’ve grown to accept that problems are a part of life. Call them challenges. Call them tests. But there is no such thing as a bad streak. Things not going your way is a constant, just like waking up in the morning or sleeping.
But after each problem I’ve solved, I’ve realized that I’m a bit better.
That my circumstances forced me to learn new things. To develop new skills. To push myself a bit to the limit. And this helped me stay sane.
Call it rationalization if you want but I consider it more than this. It is about lifting the dumbbells of life even when you don’t have the muscle to do so.
Does it hurt? Yes.
Can you get hurt? You usually do.
But will it kill you? Most of the times not.
… and generally, you will be better off after this is done than beforehand.
When things go wrong and you realize that your usual way of doing things is not enough to solve … that you need to reinvent yourself … it is like a forced form of self-development, of self-improvement.
It is like a wake up call of “YOU NEED TO CHANGE, YOU NEED TO ADAPT”. |
And this is always growth. Unless the problem is so big that there are long term consequences to it. I am the first to admit that some things in our lives hit us so hard that it is hard to recover.
For example, I know a guru in the self-improvement field. Wonderful person. And after a seminar, his house burned down. Electrical problem.
The same house in which he invested tens or even hundred of thousands of dollars. And he had no insurance.
In this particular case, the growth is not really proportional to the loss. He may have learned to get insurance next time or create safety systems. But the loss is huge. Yet, even in such a case, he grew. He grew like a person.
He most likely learned to confront his inner fears and limits and accept reality. To work twice as hard and to move ahead and maybe, give him the time to focus on other things in his life.
I have no idea what he thought of this, deep down in his heart. But that’s what I assume.
So this is my theory or better said, my perception on problems.
I don’t like them. I hate them. I hate when my financials are not good. I hate it when I lose someone I love. I hate it when I fail and it hurts so much that I want to cry. And I am the first to admit, in some moments, the pressure is so big that this is the only thing you can do.
But in the same time, I know that this is a wake up call. It is a lesson that I need to learn to get access to things, resources, circumstances that I am not prepared to get. It is going to the gym and instead of doing reps with my normal weights, I am forced to do with 3x the weight.
And yes, this keeps me sane. And keeps a smile on my face even when everything sucks. Even when it feels like a hell.
One of the best examples is how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. That caterpillar must struggle to get out of the cocoon. It takes hours in a row. It is not an easy process and I can bet that it hurts like hell.
But that struggle develops strong and beautiful wings. And without the struggle, those winds could not exist.
Therefore, without the problems in your life, you could never develop your wings.
