I just finished reading the article. Thanks for sharing.

One of the fascinating take-aways is Hale's definition of the ''past''. It's subtle, but it's a vital mind and life-shifting stuff. The truth is that most of us are really battling with memories of pains and challenges.

Yet, real life, is here and NOW. In the moment, we can work on the solutions. Instead of devoting our energies to brooding, self-pity and intellectual analyses.

I've read a similar take by Eckhart Tolle (hope I got the spelling right). And, it makes a lot of sense: the past and the future are not ''directly'' in our hands, but today is, the NOW is..the real harbinger of what we term the future and the past.

    Best wishes,

    Michael Newman

Past is a history, future is a mystery. Present is omnipresent. If everyone has the ability to understand this, no one would worry about anything and live life blissfully.

While I agree that problems from the past need to remain in the past and become a memory as the author suggests, I disagree that present problems are also a memory.

I understand what he is trying to get at, but if someone has a current problem that is keeping them awake at night (which the author is saying) the last thing they need to do is try to call it a memory.

The real term for pushing a current problem aside and not dealing with it is called denial, not a memory.

We all need to let go of past problems rather than dwell on them, but if there is something currently going on in someone's life they need to take a good look at the problem, consider their options, and make decisions based on what is best for them. Once the problem is solved, then let go of it.
