To those who have sold mobile sites, Did the customers prefer to host the site along with their standard site? I'm not sure if they would eve be aware of the possibility.....

I always setup the mobile-site on their host, it is much less complicated when you and your client part ways... also when selling the client doesn't feel the pressure of being stuck with you when they want out. I am a true believer of making it the client as easy as possible to leave you.

For me its about 50/50. Some clients simply have a website but don't know how to access it so we offer hosting to make it simpler. They are also not that interested in redirecting as using it for QR Code promotions etc. Quentin |

If you are not going to charge them monthly for updates etc. I don't see a reason to charge them monthly for hosting. If they are not aware that they can host their mobile site with their standard site, you should let them know this. This is my approach.

Well I dont charge them at all usually as it is incorporated in their QR Code tracking service. Heck a mobile website is so small and uses up very little resources. Another aspect is that if you push to host on their site quite often they will contact someone so you can loose the work and from my experience most businesses don't even think about hosting it they just want a solution. I always go back and try and get their main website work as well so if I do I happily move it to their domain then and give them the hosted one for free. Q |

I agree its about 50/50. With data security being a extremely hot topic, companies have to go above and beyond to protect their companies and customers data. We find that the larger companies definitely want to host their mobile site as they want full control of their data (very understandable). Smaller, less technical companies, who don't have the hosting resources typically are fine with a hosted solution as this allows them to focus on their goals - growing their business. |

Yep just got that question the other day. I use DudaMobile for my sites. The client said: "Do I own the site then if you host it?" I was caught off guard and am pretty sure I lost the sale. Oh well you live and learn. Now I'll be offering them either a hosted site or a site they host which I'll be creating templates for. |
