Thanks for the link - started my day with a laugh.

I think that these examples show that there are many marketing managers who really do not consider life from their customers perspective. They see some new technology - QR Codes - and do not understand how a customer could access the service and benefit.

One thing I see often is that they use free QR Code generators provided by the short url sites - and then expose all their QR Code statistics and performance information open to the public!

I actually think the first one on the back of the truck would get scanned by a LOT of people as that truck drives around.

It's not unsafe if you are sitting behind the truck at the lights.

This is precisely why I do not agree with those that say QR codes are a failure, will never take off, etc. I have read every thread in this sub-forum and have been a bit surprised about the doubters of the necessity of including QR codes in a mobile package. Don't lose the opportunity to impress upon your customer your knowledge of cutting edge technologies and marketing practices.

Just a little patience is all that is required. Sure, we are up to the fifth iPhone, but smart phones are not ubiquitous yet - they are in their infancy. Wait until smart phones are the norm (which they will quickly become), and then make those determinations. And then we'll all kick ourselves in the ass for not starting companies based around QR codes, above and beyond using them as a marketing tool and sales point. It will eventually become mandatory to offer to a potential customer, as they will begin asking for them.

Society's knowledge and learning about such things in not linear - it is exponential. We are sitting at the bottom of the curve, on the inverted precipice, and it won't be long before the exponential knowledge growth of QR codes begins and most people know what they are.

Not sure those are all bad.

Truck: Like Will said at a stop light this would work great. And it's so weird it is bound to get scanned. Though it may be too random so the people who scan it might not be the correct target. But does it really matter if the traffic is targeted if the "cost" isn't pure lead? Hell the weird factor could lead to it going viral depending on what it is for. It wouldn't scan on my screen so I couldn't tell what it actually went to.

Banner in subway: I wonder if that banner is also put up in places that people would be next to it. Often companies place the same banner in multiple locations. So there is makes no sense while in other locations it does. And removing it from the one banner it doesn't work on doesn't make sense.

Towed by plane: Honestly without testing this who can be sure it wouldn't work? But honestly seemed dumb vs. towing letters.

Billboard: Without knowing the location and the traffic flow it's hard to know how dumb this is. If it is a spot where rush hour slows people down or in a spot where people on the ground can scan it it might work.

Sign hanging from ceiling: Ok that is just dumb period.

Urinals: I like this one myself.

Mall sign: Same idea as the subway sign. Making a special sign for the places it doesn't work would be dumb as this same sign is likely used in multiple places.

Bus: Same as truck but harder to scan. But at least it gives more info.

Inside of Bottle: I don't think it will work. The idea is cool but did anyone test it before approving it? Classic case of cool idea that no one actually tested.

Conveyor: They do stop. In many smaller airports you will get to it before it is going so before your luggage is there. So in the right airport this works.

The sixth one could be a good test of whether you can operate your scanner single handed!

Thanks Joe for the smile. It's encouraging that companies are trying to incorporate QR more into their business.

In Japan it has been a culture staple for many years. In the subways there are Billboards with Grocery items pictured with a featured QR that people scan to order groceries, set a time for pickup, and either grab the goods on way home after work, or pay a fee for delivery.

A Nice Use of Time I would say

Here at Tella World we are bringing out a full campaign to local business built around QR usage. Hoping for good results.

Best,
