Local Daily Deal Program ?

Ok my ? Is

Say you have a county of 200,000 people and you want to grow one SMS LIST instead of a few smaller list for the same county.

That list could grow up to as many as 10,000-20,000 people which makes for a very powerful list. So therefore I Would charge Local Businesses 100$ mo service fee and 3cents per text they send out on my list. This way I would only have to worry about building one list instead of building multiple list.

So basically I wanna know which would be better 4 or 5 smaller list for same county or one large one. I also wondered how hard it would be to break the list of say 10,000 people up into say groups of 5?

Let me your thoughts and opinions. thank you

I've raised the same question myself, if I understand you correct. I could have independent lists of let's say 100 restaurants with their own lists, or I could build one giant master list and make it a deal of the day type of program and let them all make offers to that one giant list. It seems like everyone would win in that scenario, as each restaurant could get exposure to a greater list. My one concern is that people might not be receptive to having their phone hit daily with marketing texts. From the study I've done on the subject, people might like to get one email a week from a particular restaurant that they like. Getting one each day from random restaurants might irritate them, as people still have an expectation of privacy on their cell phones and aren't always keen on getting marketing texts, even if they sign up for them.

Just my opinion as I embark on my own SMS marketing journey. Best of luck with it, and interesting topic. I'll be watching to see what others have to say with more experience.

Wouldn't it depend upon location and interests?

Example: Maybe I'm not interested in restaurants at all.

Or, maybe I am interested in restaurants, but not the one
on the other side of the county.

have an opt-in page for consumers to select what businesses/categories they want deals from. Every text should have an easy link to change preferences so they don't opt out of your list.

this is the downfall now w/ all the coupon sites, still spamming people w/ mass deals that aren't relevant to the particular consumer. As a guy I don't want endless email deals of nail services, glamour shots, and makeup deals!

I like this idea. So you would have one opt-in page with different keywords for different businesses and services for people to opt-in to?

Would you market your list to all "restaurants" or just one restaurant that would send out text for their deals only. Same with other services and products.

Yeah, I would want the consumer to opt in choosing whatever categories/keywords they are interested in. If your offers are specifically relevant they will quit, especially going to a phone. I swear I went to the various deal sites and chose specific categories but I still get spammed like crazy w/ irrelevant offer categories. They are going to crater the whole industry. consumers are getting fed up w/ email spam from all the deals. It's no longer a novel one offer a day.

Mobile delivered deals would have to be very focused and relevant to the consumer.

As for merchants, maybe you auction off the deal spot to the highest bidder for each category, that would be interesting!

As a consumer I wouldn't want a deal text more than 1 a day max. Maybe less like every other day.
