Would you pay $60 for a cuddle? Well, there are a lot of people
who would. Talk about a new niche.

Depends on what she looks like and how we're defining "cuddle."

Yes, there's lots of people out there that would pay that. Back in the late 1990s, I used to attend "cuddle parties" as part of my never-ending desire to experiment socially.

All I can say is that they were, uh, interesting.......

I found the article fascinating. Especially the part where it talked about all the steps she takes before she even takes on a client. I wish it had more detail about that.

    Thanks for the share Ray.

I wouldn't ever do it either, or pay for it.

To me, having someone hold you...that you know doesn't deeply care about you...is a meaningless gesture.

Added later; That doesn't mean I haven't done it...or that it was meaningless to the other person.

Totally understand that and I'm right behind you on that one. All I'm saying is that there are people out there that would pay for cuddling services of another human being. For some people, hugging an animal just doesn't do it for them.

I'm really low maintenance. I'm good snuggling up with a beer and a big pile of nachos with extra cheese!

My thoughts exactly. I looked at her picture and found her on her cute side.

There are plenty of Chinese and Korean massage places by where I live that charge as little as $15 per hour for a full body massage, though the unwritten rule is you need to tip them at least $10 (if you want to keep coming back, that is, and get good service).

And they put your feet in really warm water before they go to town on your feet and calves.

I'll take your word for it, Rod, although I just can't imagine it. I mean, I could take that warm puppy home and never be lonely again. I don't think those guys can do that with the cuddle pedlar.

Though I'm sure there are plenty of people who might think this is weird, I can also see plenty of people who might want to do this. The lady who started this got a lot of business so far.

Aside from lonely men, the article also mentioned men who had disabilities.

If there's one thing I've learned as a dating coach over the past decade is that there are a lot of lonely people out there and cuddling with someone else, even for an hour, might be a very good thing for them.

I'm sure, though, at the end of her "work" day (or "cuddle day"), the first thing she does when she gets home is shower.....thoroughly.

I'd pay to be touched less, if that were possible.
    1. kissing hello or goodbye
    2. having to hug in greeting or in farewell
    3. shaking hands

I used to arrive late parties and leave early, just to avoid those annoying rituals.

That's interesting. You disliked these rituals, I just didn't understand why people did them.

I get most thrown off by physical rituals. I'm neither an alpha male nor a follower. Social engagement is fine with me most of the time, unless it is nasty, like a situation where everyone is trying to size everyone else up and trying to dominate the conversation.

Hard to say since we only know she had 1,000 customers during her first week. It sounds like to me that she probably has employees or contractors working for her. And she has "themed" rooms, so there was definitely some cash investment.

I'd be curious to know how many customers she has right now, how many employees, etc. At what little we know, it sounds like she's doing alright, but who really knows.

    Personally, I would not.

I see huge transference (in a nutshell, this is where the patient gets romantic feelings for the therapist) problems. Especially with untrained "cuddlers".

I do know a group of 25 year olds who are all friends - grew up together. Male and female. They have cuddle sessions. I think just one-on-one and non-sexual. (Just based on one of the girls asking one of the guys over for a cuddle session in front of a lot of customers in the bar that many of them also worked at.)

This reminded me of a story I read at HP that kind of shocked me and made me think I was a bit out of touch with the younger generation. According to a study, 93% of straight men ( students ) have spooned or cuddled with another man!

"98 percent of the study's participants -- all white, college-age male athletes -- have shared a bed with another guy. In addition, 93 percent also reported having spooned or cuddled with another man."

I'm definitely out of touch with the younger generation. I thought the kids I posted about and their cuddle sessions kinda strange. Hetero cuddling is stranger.

On the other hand, I don't have a problem with homosexuality (and please don't anyone start that discussion). My best friend from high school came out after high school - although we started suspecting earlier.

Man hugs are not something I'm into. Same for shaking hands with the same people I see everyday.
The younger generation seems to do that - at least at the bar I used to play pool at nightly.

    I find this deeply disturbing.

Are people actually so hooked on money they think they can buy affection.

Buying sex can at least be understood because it can be a mechanical function without expectations of emotion on either side, but cuddling is affection - raw emotion with no other objective involved. As Claude would put it - completely meaningless when paid for. This is one of the sickest side effects of uber-consumerism I've ever seen in my life.

Buying sex can at least be understood because it can be a mechanical function without expectations of emotion on either side, but cuddling is affection - raw emotion with no other objective involved. As Claude would put it - completely meaningless when paid for. This is one of the sickest side effects of uber-consumerism I've ever seen in my life.
to each their own I suppose, eh?
I am not surprised - people spend money on just about everything -

I'm with Terra on this one - I will get myself a pet to cuddle before I cuddle strangers - I'm friendly with people for the most part but I need to get to know you before I cuddle, that is for sure.

Must admit that this is exactly how I've instinctively felt about it, myself, since this thread appeared. (I wondered whether that was just my own reaction because of all my own Aspie-tendencies, and am quite pleased to see you saying the same thing, Sal! ).

I'll back you two on this one. It is playing with emotions. Therapeutic kinds of things should be
regulated and done by trained and qualified people. I see how a client could get psychologically
harmed if he or she starts to develop feelings for the 'cuddler' and it is not handled professionally.

There's also a new service to claudle. You pay $60 to be groped by a creepy old white guy. It's not doing too well.

Kurt, I would imagine it's not doing well because of all the bubble wrap? Another guess would be the Kirby in the room....

My service would do better if your picture wasn't in the ads.

            This is an odd service. Why would someone pay to be cuddled? Let's take an adult male;

Is it a substitute for sex? If it is, it's a bad one.
Is it because the person feels unloved? Do they really think the "cuddler" loves them?

Like others have drought up, I can imagine massive problems with customers growing attached to the cuddler. Of course, that's repeat business...but I bet some of these guys will imagine they are in a relationship. Guys that go to strip clubs do that. They give money to strippers, and then imagine that they are dating the stripper....just that the dates always happen at the club, and they cost a lot of money. It's kind of depressing.

In fact, there are real parallels to strippers. They both sell companionship, physical contact, with rules....for money.

Now that you make that parallel to strippers, I see how it could become dangerous to the "cuddler". Of course, probably not so much alcohol involved.

I worked as doorman at a night club that was mellow while I worked there. I had customers who were doormen at strip clubs and they told me stories. I know I was not 'bad ass' enough to deal with what those guys had to deal with.
