OMGosh! OMGosh!

Hubby just filled out the application form for Jake!

I sooo hope we get him!

He's not the type of dog I initially wanted, but when I saw him, it was like he looked into my eyes and soul right from his picture!

I want him so desperately!

Oh, haha! Here he is...

  • He's cute. That spot on his nose though - every time I see it I'd want to wipe that spot off like it was dirt or something

    My goldie has black spots on his tongue. Every time I see it my reaction is "crap - what'd he eat this time..."

  • Terriers make good snacks for Huskies.


    Seriously, though, they usually have a good, confident personality and
    a West Highland White Terrier was the only small dog that could play well
    with my Husky.

    I think your Jake, (hopefully) is a mix between a Jack Russell Terrier (they'll try to take on a bear) and a Yorkshire Terrier or Cairn Terrier. However, I'm far from an expert.

  • That testing sounds great. I never did find out what Ricky's mix was and I would have loved to have known.

    All the suggestions I've seen here seem to hold water.

    • It is! I was very bummed when I didn't get a call today, but I just got an email from them saying they are processing my application and ask for my patience as they are an extremely busy organization but are acting as promptly as they can.

      They said when the process is complete, they will call to make an appointment for me to come and meet Jake face to face and we'll go on from there.

      Hurray! But darned processes and red tape, haha!

  • I tried to edit my last post, but I just get the spinning cursor thing.

    Anyway, I wonder if DNA testing can determine the different Terrier types
    that may be in him?

    • They do a blood test version that supposedly recognizes all AKC breeds. You have to get it done at your vet's office. The swab version recognizes most of them. Supposedly.

  • I had a dog that many people, including vetted vets LOL, thought had some wolf
    in her. This was before DNA testing was readily available and semi-inexpensive.
    I would have done it in a heartbeat. She was the gentlest dog ever - a Gamma
    if there is such a thing.

  • I agree rotties are the best dogs ever -- but they are not for everyone. These wonderful animals end up in shelters far too often just because people don't know how to handle them. It's very sad.

    Terra - I've been also denied a dog before because I didn't have a fence. I'm the one that teaches dogs "road" "cross" "no cross" and "no go in the road" -- and goes out every day and walks and trains with the dog -- but gotta have that fence. So....I know your frustration.

    Also - I agree wholeheartedly to not get a dog from a puppy mill. If you run across anywhere that is milling puppies - report them to your local Humane society, police, and rescue organizations. Getting every one of those hell holes shut down would be a dream come true for thousands of animals.

      Growing up with my Dad as an AKC Beagle and Weimaraner breeder and helping raise and train the pups my whole childhood, I despise puppy mills!

      I wish my Dad was still alive, with all of his connections, I would have had my puppy like yesterday!

      But such is life, so the waiting continues....

    • Terra - so sorry. Must have been in great demand. That's why you couldn't get any time commitment, right? Because you were on the list - but not on top of the list?

      On the bright side - you know they are careful about the homes dogs go to...so you know that little guy got a good home. There's a dog waiting for you - you just have to find him/her!

      I talked to the head of the AAF (Animal Adoption Foundation) this morning and he said in some parts of the country, the spay/neuter programs have been so successful that small dogs, especially, often have several people apply to adopt them.

      If you apply for another dog - I wonder...will they tell you where your application stands...#1,2,3 etc?
