I'm heartbroken =( Not Anymore! =) ~ Updated with new photos
When she woke this morning, I took her out but after going, she ran right back to the door and whined to go back in. That was unusual, she usually likes to explore first. Once we were back inside, I got her breakfast for her. She wouldn't eat or drink anything. I know it wasn't her new food, because I used a couple of the kibbles as her treats all last evening and night and she liked them just fine.
She didn't want to play at all and she looked sooo sad. I could see it in her eyes. All she did was whimper and want to be in my lap. Twice, she jumped off my lap ran to the door, whined, then instantly squatted for a bowel movement. (On the pee-pee-pad) only about 15 minutes apart and they were very loose stools, but not diarrhea.
I felt so bad for her and just held her in my lap for another hour and she just whimpered lightly and didn't want to give doggie kisses. After that I decided I would just carry her with me and went and checked my e-mail only to find this:
Terra, Hope all is well with your pup. I wanted to contact you because I just found out today that her litter mate tested positive to parvo. It doesn't mean Lexi has it or will get it, but she most likely is exposed. Please keep a close eye on her. Watch for lethargic behavior, not eating/drinking, vomiting, and/or diarrhea. The pup could show any or all of these symptoms. Most likely, the lethargic behavior is the first symptom to come up. Contact us if any of these occur. We will take the pup and treat it at our expense. Please be vigilant since early detection is important. There is no test for the disease unless the symptoms are present. Contact us if you have any questions. Thank you. Connie Fleck, Director Canine Companions Rescue Center |
I immediately contacted Connie and she told me to take her to a particular animal hospital, asap. She said go now, I'll call them and they'll be expecting you. I was still in my jammies so I had to get dressed. I set Lexi in her crate and she just laid there whimpering. I threw some clothes on real fast and came back down stairs.
I called for her and she popped up, came to me and gave me a doggie kiss, then she went to her bowl, ate about a quarter of her food and to took two licks of water. She wagged her tail. I thought, maybe she is okay and I'm just freaking out because of the email.
Anyway, I took her there and the 8 minutes of waiting were torturous! I could hear Lexi barking, not whining, but barking, through the door. The test came back positive. She's in the hospital now.
They told me they would keep in touch and that her sister was doing very well. They said it was a good sign that Lexi is still spunky. They said they don't retest and said it could be 3 days, or 5 days, but if it went 7 days, that wouldn't be good.
I'm home now all alone and the house is soo quiet. I miss my baby girl. I don't know what to do with myself...
