News from The Associated Press

Natalie Cole, the daughter of jazz legend Nat King Cole, who carved out her own success with R&B hits like "Our Love" and "This Will Be" before triumphantly intertwining their legacies to make his "Unforgettable" their signature hit through technological wizardry, has died. She was 65.

It was sad news to hear. Although she wasn't young I would have thought she had more years to go yet.

I will always rate her highly for doing what almost no one else has done - Follow a parent that was a legend and succeeding on her own terms to the point where some consider her a legend also.

She had a lot of drug problems throughout much of her Life as she tells in her autobiography. Really abused them bad. Heavily into heroine and crack.
Developed Hepatitis C which she attributed to intravenous needles. Later had kidney failure and congestive heart failure.

Very lucky to see 65 , really. When you abuse heavy drugs like Heroin the grim ripper will prematurely come for you sooner or later

    65? Ouch.

Mike - that's a pretty good assessment of her, I think. She sure inherited her daddy's talent - but she definitely was her own person. This is a sad loss.
