Hey all!

Where would I go or who to contact to get a crew to donate their time to clean out and renovate a BIG farmhouse?

Background: My little brother was killed on New Year's Day - this year. His kids have had their hands full with funeral planning, probate attorneys, etc., and now they're in the process of getting his house sold.

His oldest daughter (28), her baby and his son (who's only 18) still live in the house; I can not even imagine how they're handling this! I was at the house the other day for the first time since he passed and I just lost it! My brother and I were VERY close so I'm still in the "This has got to be a nightmare!" phase.

Anyway, my niece's fiance lost his uncle a few months ago and inherited his farmhouse. It's a huge place but it was let go for years. It needs a complete overhaul, top to bottom.

These kids don't have the time or funds to just hire a crew to come in and clean out, clean up and remodel the place to make it livable. Her fiance can't sell the old house or do a refi because of how things went down in probate (long story). A part of the old house is a separate apartment that's currently rented and pays the mortgage.

My niece, her baby and my nephew need somewhere to live once their father's house is sold, and her fiance said - instead of them trying to buy another house and have an extra mortgage, just move into my house, we'll fix it up and only have one small mortgage.

They all work full time; my nephew is still in college but as soon as he's done, he'll be working full time too.

My husband and I are both on SSD so we don't have the money to just hire someone to come in and take care of it all.

I was thinking of creating a GoFundMe page but I haven't been very successful with that in the past.

Should I put an ad on craigslist? Contact schools to see if carpentry students can do work in exchange for school credits? My niece's fiance is also a mechanic, which is what he does during the landscaping off-season, so maybe he could barter mechanic services for the work?

I'm just really stuck for ideas on how to help them.
