did have a score of 5.7 for ac1 test which is right on the cutoff for pre diabetes.
I think pre diabetes is 5.7 to 6.5. Anything over 6.5 is diabetes.

Anyone else experienced this ??

I've got a list of my own ailments but so far, no diabetes.

From other family members I've seen that those who don't make lifestyle modifications can't keep up with the medicine. In other words, things get worse and worse and the med requirements get to be more and more. Whereas if they were trying to control things they can control, it wouldn't be so bad.

Luckily you have some experience with your exercising and weight loss that may help you keep up with any changes you need to make. You are in a much better place, for example, compared to someone who has never exercised consistently, doesn't know how, doesn't have self-discipline, etc.

I hope you can figure it out before it becomes full blown diabetes. Nip this baby in the bud.

You already exercise and the good news is this is only a 'warning' - you are the very lowest number for 'pre-diabetes'.... Much better to be aware of the potential problem than to be smacked down WITH diabetes in 5 years.

What about diet? My own family has changed it's diet pretty drastically during the pandemic. We use olive oil to coat oven roasted vegetables and often have a mix of small cubes of potato, sweet potato, fresh asparagus, broccoli, onion, red/yellow sweet peppers, mushrooms....etc etc.....whatever is on hand gets a bit of olive oil, sea salt and fresh ground pepper....and maybe some fresh herbs from my pots before they freeze. It's really good stuff!

We've cut back on meat, increased seafood meals and non meat meals. We abandoned pie (I love pie!) and cake for mixed fresh fruit that we cut up in a container, cover with orange or other juice and eat as snacks and dessert. I still put some coolwhip on mine because I LOVE coolwhip. We make our own 'rice bowls' and stir-fry and fajitas and quesadillas - so we have meat but in smaller portions that are really tasty. We have carbs but in lower quantities than in the past.

We avoid processed foods for the most part (I also love hot dogs) but not always. We aren't rigid about it - if we feel like a big carb heavy meal once a week, we do it. We still order pizza but once a month instead of once a week. Other family members use ground turkey and eat 'black bean burgers - yuck - lean ground beef still works for me.

Take a close look at what you eat and start eliminating some of the carbs (not all), some of the processed foods, etc - and replacing them with fresh fruits and veggies. It could make a difference in that number. Be flexible - include your favorite foods along with healthier meals and make the change gradual.

The reason for posting all the 'stuff' above about our 'eating habits' is this: Both my daughter-in-law and I have had blood tests in the past couple of months....and both of us had results BETTER than a year ago. The only change is in our diet...so....might help you.

Not sure where I read about this, but for the last several months, I take a swig of cold pressed virgin olive oil every morning, a couple capsules of fish oil, and several garlic oil capsules.

Also, I drink a few table spoons of lemon juice every morning.

My cholesterol and blood pressure were a tad high, but are now normal.

And added benefit of the olive oil is that my joints don't creak like they used to.

I'm old and creaky...but I now don't sound old and creaky.

So, you stopped being creaky, but no amount of olive oil will stop you being creepy.

I just use multivitamins and D3 ones, plus a supplement to bring my lower than normal testosterone levels back to what they should be. My joints and agility have improved since I started taking them.

I'm certain my testosterone is low. I'm not joking.

But at 66 (and my wife is 74), one thing I don't need in my life is more testosterone.

My wife would not be happy is I was more...um...interested.

And both our cats were fixed. Sooooooo......they seem to be OK with it, so I guess I am too.

          This isn't a joke...

We were on a Skype call with several of Cheryl's brothers, sisters, and their kids.

They were talking about not having a large photo of their Mom.

I said "We have a large portrait of your Mom, It's hanging over the headboard in our bedroom. It helps".

I knew the reaction. Everyone ignored it except for her older brother. He started laughing, and couldn't stop for a few minutes.

When I was first invited to my wife's family for our first Christmas dinner (33 years ago)...

Cheryl had just had her hair done. Everyone was complimenting her on it. I thought it was funny, that everyone at the table had to take turns saying how good it looked.

          It was surreal to me.

After it died down, I said "I think her hair looks great. You know, it wasn't until our second date, that I found out that's not her natural hair color".

          Nothing. Complete silence...and then...

Her older brother Larry, slowly started laughing. He has a deep voice. The laugh started low and slow...and built up to a real belly laugh.

          I had found my guy.

We cook with olive oil, eat a lot of salmon, mahi mahi and cod, use fresh garlic daily and squeeze fresh lemon juice in our water, on veggies and on shrimp. Same difference....

Glad to hear you are well lubed and squeak free...

I have diabetes in my family. My aunt died horribly (after having to have her leg amputated). Another aunt has it now.

I monitor my Ac1 twice a year. Was able to reverse it from pre-diabetic with diet alone. Low/no carb worked amazingly well for me. This also means no processed foods as these usually have hidden carbs and seed oils.

It's a big permanent lifestyle change but the alternative is eventually medication for life if you can't get it under control. And the medication is not without side effects.

Have a look at a few of Dr Ken Berry's videos on YouTube.

It's an epidemic down here in South Texas ( San Antonio). My wife is a nurse and she says people just do not take Diabetes serious enough. She said only until people treat it as serious as a Cancer diagnosis, we will have some progress with it.

It's definitely treatable and can be managed but people down here are just too in love with their tortillas, rice , and Big red diet ( me being one with rice and tortillas )

That's a pity, because bringing your testosterone levels back to what they should be compared to your younger years is not a bad thing. Using this stuff has made my body leaner and more sculpted without doing any extra exercise. As to having a little more stamina, yes, as to having more stirrings down under, yes. It's a pity you can not experience this because of one of the effects.

I know a fellow that has very low T and can't use any replacements because he has other conditions that may get worse with supplementation. He's fairly young, comparatively, but is devastated as they've discovered that a couple of his health issues may be a direct result of low T and now no treatment available. Not just the plumbing but other things that affect his daily life. So, yeah, T isn't just for the bedroom.

It's more than that. By nature, I have a dominating personality. I used to have impulses and a temperament I'm no longer willing to have. My wife has told me that the last ten years or so, I've been much kinder to others.

It's why I haven't done any drugs or drank for the vast majority of my adult life.

You are at the pre-diabetes stage. The good news is making healthy lifestyle choices. You can still reverse the effect and bring down the sugar levels. So it's a warning, once you become diabetic, it becomes difficult to treat completely. (edited)

Is this the first time you have had blood work done. If you stay there there will probably never be much or any trouble.

Once you get down to your desired weight and eat a healthy diet to maintain it . You could start personally testing your bodies reaction to food and what foods spike your blood sugar. Glucose response is different from person to person. And then different food combinations and amounts of alcohol use

I'd mostly agree with key though you are already taking care of your health once you get to a healthy weight and maintain that your a1c should be fine

I have had diabetes since 2005 at least. Only found out when I had cataract surgery but my sight didn't return in the left eye. So I only have 1 good eye. I had a cataract removed from that eye in June last year with no issues but there was a tiny risk of losing that sight too.

I have a long list of true diagnoses that would probably scare most people. I will likely have surgery on my lower back this year due to bulging discs and trapped nerves cause so much pain in both legs that I never go out and can't walk without my walking frame inside.

Something many people don't realise is that if you have numerous ailments and take medications, the side effects can differ and some may clash.

So, if you suspect you have diabetes or anything else, don't wait to see your doctor!

I was the same, borderline cholesterol and borderline type II diabetes. I did the Keto diet. It worked for me. Lost lots of weight, my joint pain is now minimal. I do not take any meds. I am 60. Now I do a combination of the Keto and Paleo Diets.

I do not advocate or promote either of these diets I am just saying they worked wonderfully for me.
