And actually kind of liked it.

Very surprising as I have sworn up and down that I hate these types of movies. But this one had a decent plot to it. Maybe I will get adventurous and start watching more movies like this.

Mark and Claude hope I make you proud with being open minded to movies like this

Claude will back me up here: If you're looking for excellent comic book movies, you must watch Logan. I think you can get the gist without the preceding movies as back story.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

Yup. Logan stands as a phenomenal movie...almost only incidentally has super heroes in it.

Yeah, Guardians Of The Galaxy was a real standout. They took a third tier superhero group that had no audience, and turned it into a real entertainment joy ride.

By the way, yesterday I saw The Flash.

A great story, Ezra Miller (no matter what you think of him) was phenomenal as two completely different versions of himself. And Michael Keaton really shined as a version of Batman.

It's weird. The only thing that stood out as a negative are some of the effects.

Most were great (meaning you couldn't tell they were CGI), but some were on par with the Superman mustache removal in Justice League. It was just distracting.

But the movie made me really really want to see Keaton as Batman again.

And I agree with Shane. Antman was a really well done movie too. And so were the two sequels. Just like Guardians.

      Added later;

Mark mentioned Wonder Woman. Yup, I agree. An excellent movie. The second WW movie was a mess, framed by a great first and last scene.

"By the way, yesterday I saw The Flash."

You have been hanging out in the dark corners of your local park again now haven't you.

I don't know about the sequels, but the original GOTG was a superlative balance of dazzle, action and comedy. It rivalled the first Wonder Woman movie in it's perfection. The Groot scene where he's bashing the soldiers from side to side and then turns around and grins provided a rare belly laugh for me.

Logan, while providing a good drama, and acting, was not really a superhero movie for me. It was actually rather depressing to see the demise of a warrior and an aged professor.

I don't want superhero movies to lose sight of the fact that they are comic strips brought to life. Sure, they can have a good script, FX great lines, lots of action and a bit of comedy, even a bit of character development.

But, too much (excluding the FX) means they lose sight of the fact that it's all supposed to be fantasy fun. Too much grounding in modern day reality detracts from that and makes it less so. The latest Thor film was dreadful. A mediocre comedy really. You must achieve a balance when making these types of films. WW and GOTG were perfect examples of this.

Comic books are just a medium. They can be cartoons, romances, horror, history, the classics put into comics form, and hero fantasies. It's just like any other form of literature. And there have been comics in all these formats.

They aren't "supposed" to be any one thing. It's just that you see them this one way.

Civilization has always had hero fantasy stories. Some became gods in religions. Some were myths, Hercules, Beowulf, Grendel, King Author, William Tell, Daniel Boone etc. (I know Daniel Boone was real. But the stories about him are not, usually...like the stories of Wyatt Earp)

Heroes used to wear robes, then bear skins, then leather.

Now they wear spandex. Silly? Sure. But all fantasy is silly.

By the way, in the Flash movie...the fight scenes with Michael Keaton as Batman are worth the price of admission alone.

Ok, l have seen the trailer and am l right in believing that General Zod is the one from the 1980 Superman II motion picture but Terence Stamp isn't playing his character, (obviously too old)?

I mean if Zod is just a coincidence, (the name) and he is some alien with a chip on his shoulder then l will probably pass

This Zod comes from the movie Man Of Steel. And he's played by that actor, Michael Shannon. And in this movie, there is an army of Kryptonians...and they are winning.

In The Flash, Zod is the enemy. But it's almost incidental that there is an enemy. The drama is in Barry Allen dealing with his past trauma, rescuing Supergirl, and Bruce Wayne's (Michael Keaton) transformation back into a great Batman.

There are also plenty of short guest spots from the DC universe...including previous versions of Batman and Superman.

Frankly, if you are a super hero fan, you'll love the movie. If you aren't, you won't.

If I recall, correctly, in the Christopher Reeve Superman movie, Zod was deprived of his powers by being exposed to a Red Kryptonite beam, then had his hand crushed by Superman and flung down an icy crevasse. In the Man Of Steel film, Superman did something with his head, but not being a Chiropractor, it was detrimental to his health.

Can't wait to see what his demise will be in this one.

Good watch Ant Man next also a movie with a off putting title but damn good story.

The Flash - Official Trailer 2 - YouTube

i have to admit even though l am sick to death of Action/Hero movies this one has caught my interest.

He goes back in time and saves his parents but in turn General Zod, instead of losing his powers with supermans trick, probably on Lex Luthers advise flys a safe distance away and keeps his powers.

    But l dunno?

It's a 3 hour long fight scene with very little dialogue. Whether this is good or bad depends on your perspective.

I watched it streaming tonight, bit of a slog. Can't believe how everybody was such a lousy shot and missed him all the time. Any one of those car injuries or falling down the steps or out of the window would have killed him instantly. But hey, it was fun to watch and well orchestrated.

Ironic that Winston's Concierge was killed as they would have not needed to to have found a replacement, but we know now that will not need to happen anyway.

Barbie has not been released yet. It is scheduled to be released July 21. You would have seen the commercials if you watched the Baking Championship on Food Network last night. Considering all the cakes had to have a Barbie theme.

I think the clue was in the name, "Man Of Steel", an all powerful superhero with god like powers and where bullets and shells just bounced off him. Wick was just a superlative human assassin with fast reflexes and martial art skills. He was not impregnable to the sort of harm that befell him in this movie. It had become increasingly so throughout the series to the point of farce. At least in the previous ones he got cuts on his face, Not this one though.

Even the baddies were getting up from devastating injuries. As for the dog getting up from being slammed violently against a moving car and growling, well, that takes the dog biscuit, lol. Then we have the blind man doing really well against all the adversaries.

There seemed to be some implication that Wick's suit had a lightweight fabric that was resistant to bullets because he kept shielding his face with the lapels. The baddies, at least the principle ones without the full metal gear, wearing suits, were being hit and metallic pings could sometimes be heard. Well that obviously explains it, lol.

They have increasingly stretched the credibility of fight scenes in movies over the years. This one took it to a whole new level.

Of course the smash and dash plot of GOTG does not help. I have to admit even though I liked the first one this kill and thrash environment of these kind of movies is not in my taste.

My d-in-law said the cartoon dog reminded her of my dog - who is super happy all the time. She was right - and surprisingly I enjoyed the movie.
I watched the Trailor. That was enough for me. I take it you watched it with the grandchildren. No other excuse could ever be valid.

I saw the advertising for it years ago and that was enough for me.

But l did watch Super Mario recently expecting thin plot and character development, (l wasn't disappointed) but the one liners and cheeky attitude of Princess Peach got it over the line.

Intrigued by the Barbie Movie grossed over a billion so far, and saw two fans yesterday, (guy wearing a pink overalls and similar with the girl, but both had the Barbie type sunglasses).

Doubt that l would go into the theater, fans like that are likely to sing alone to any song played and clap at the end, (learned that lesson from Circumference of Doom).

The other move around the Trinity project is going well but l have seen enough of those types of movies and three hours in a theater is too much.

No - watched it by myself.... the trailer wasn't much like the movie - the thing did have a plot and the graphics were imaginative. Would I watch it again - no way.

I watched GOTG2 at an IMAX and thought it was funny - then watched #1 on streaming at home and decided #2 was enough.

I liked the first two movies in the series but I really have lost interest in marvel movies at this point.

I just wanted matrix revolutions on Tubi a few nights ago even though I enjoyed the movie the ending made me feel like it was on part of a movie not a movie in itself.

So I might just wait a few more years until there is an order to watch all the marvel movies post endgame to get all the pieces of the bigger story. That marvel is struggling to tell

And that makes me want to pivot back to guardians of the galaxy and the Howard the duck cameo.

In any case the half life of the thread will rapidly decay if I say what should not be said. And speak the names of the two bombs used on Japan.

But non should as it will mutate the thread in. A normal joke thread on this section of the forum.
