We had an orange tabby cat decades ago. His name was George.

Photo? How did you get him?

Over the years I've had many cats and there were about five that were special....3 of them were yellow cats.

    Cinnabar (cinna for short)
YellaGuy (he came when you called him)
    Charlie

I usually get to know an animal a bit and a name fits him/her.

Marmaduke is one possible name as it reminds you of Marmalade, a jam spread made of oranges.

The most obvious though is Garfield, the same as the comic strip cat who is orange. A bit easier to say too.

I was a Garfield aficionado for years. Loved everything about it. Books, comics, bobble head, movies, in other words whatever I could find. My wife even bought me presents of Garfield and my kids got in on it too.

Thought about the name Garfield but decided I wanted something unique.

These suggestions are great keep them coming.

Jason. I just think a cat named Jason would be funny. Or maybe Kenny.

But definitely not Claude. Nothing should be named Claude. Come to think of it, it is.

A lot of these names Ken, are too long. You need something short and snappy. So, Dan would be the perfect name.

My friend who makes a living as a psychic also claims to be a pet psychic. She told me that cat's don't always like their given name. But, cat's are cool, so if Dave means either, food is ready or come and sit on my lap then I expect they can handle it.

She has five cat's, probably even more as some of them live either outside or in the garage. She picks them up from the side of the road and has taken in some injured ones, most of which are too far gone to survive, but she will spend money on vet bills which most of the time she can ill afford. Crazy.

A cat she has had for fifteen years is a female called Kiki. You only have to say her name and she's heading for your lap.

I don't know if cats know what a "Name" is, but they come when they are called. I suspect that they just associate the sound we make....their name...with food or getting attention.

By the way, the idea of a pet psychic is ridiculous. Our pet psychiatrist told me that. And then sent a bill for $500 to our cat.

I wonder if he will pay it?

He still owes me 7 years in back rent.

Your cat told me he always covered his expenses. Whenever he sits on your lap, before settling down, he always gives you a Pound.

Ken - Maybe skip the fancy stuff and just call him 'Joe'.

"hey, Ken - do anything good last weekend"?
"not much - just hung out with joe'

    OR
"Sorry but can't make that party - already made plans with joe"

I'm having way too much fun with this....

      Hey Kay,

Finally named the cat Snoopy. Gets into everything.

But I'm having so much fun reading the post in this thread, I didn't want to kill it (not the cat) the thread.

Keep the post coming even if you go back to being your normal weird self.

Well I'm glad that you did not have to call it Poopy.

Before my divorce we had two cats, a female we called Heidi as she spent her first day or so hidden under the bed and a male we called Chuy as it had a tendency to chew stuff. For a while we also had an already domesticated stray elderly cat that spent most of it's time on the back porch. We relented after a while and allowed it in the house. The cat had already been named "Porch Kitty" by then. So calling a cat after it's traits is not uncommon. It lived for a year or so.

Both our long term cats died within a short space time of each other shortly after our divorce and I moved out. Was that significant I asked myself.
