Your All Time Favorite Board Games

Not talking about video games here, the ones with a real board and pieces etc.

Mine was Chess, loved it. I could actually beat the early chess computers at their highest level but got fed up with them based on their long response time. But, computer chess improved drastically over time and is now unbeatable.

Liked Draughts (you call them Checkers in the US). And simple games of chance like Snakes And Ladders which I played as a kid, also Ludo, now called Frustration.

So what were yours?

  • Mine was chess also, (got up to level 4 out of 10 once before it broke, which l bought in the 80's).

These days they cost almost $1000 instead of $100 but they are a decent board size with self moving chess pieces.

Probably buy one soon along with everything else.

  • A great simple card game I forgot to mention, play it with your kids. So much fun.

Distribute a shuffled pack of cards face down to the players.

    The Rules.

Any Ace is worth 4 cards
Any King is worth 3 cards
Any queen is worth 2 cards
Any Jack is worth 1 one card

Each player in turn places a card from the top of their stack face up on the table on top of each other. If one of the above cards shows up, then the next player has to put the amount of cards required based on it's value, dealing from his/her stack, face up on top of it. If none of the above cards show up then the player who originally delt one that has value picks up the cards and put them under his or her stack. He/She then deals the first card again.

If however the player in dealing the required cards comes up with one listed above, then the following player in line has to do the same. so if the next player does not produce any of the above, he or she wins the pile. And so it goes on. Obviously, the Jack is the most useful card to deal.

The winner will eventually be the person who holds all the cards.

Kids seem to adore this game.
