Is it possible to die of a broken heart?

I believe you are feeling empathy - this is such a blessing - so much more constructive than sympathy, although both are good. There is a bit more actual understanding with empathy and as they say 'misery loves company'.

As far as ESP (I am sure you don't mean inernet service provider, lol) maybe you have it and maybe not -

There is actually a medically recognized condition called a broken heart - it has a medical name that I am not sure of either - so rather than say the wrong thing I will leave it at that.

However it is pretty common for example when an elderly person who has been married for a long time dies, often their mate will die shortly after them. That phenomenon is recognized by the Meds and I have read about it several times - while with the elderly there may be other underlying conditions - it happens too often for it to be called a coincidence.

I have experienced a broken heart and even a shattered heart. You eventually heal up and go on to have the same thing happen again.

The heart breaking we can live with - however it is when a person has a broken spirit that the condition is really life threatening.

Well to be honest of one my friends had a stroke (him being 28) just 2 days after his girl left him.. and for those 2 days he was seriously being torn apart inside.. he felt his soul being eaten or something like that and then yeah one night just went up the stairs and collapsed , but survived, doctors told him it was from the stress, well then actually the Broken Heart means much more stress and that could cause some problems...! But you'd have to do more research than that to be able to come to an actual conclusion.!

I don't think it's possible to die of a broken heart, but I do believe it's possible to die from the sheer amount of grief, stress and all the problems that can PUT on your heart. I do think that people, especially those who are close to someone, can simply lose the will to live.

My little dog died 5 months ago and I must say i was really heart broken!

Having said that, the wound healed itself overtime and the loneliness times replaced by other positive activities such as hiking and going out with friends etc.

I sincerely hope that whatever wounds and scars you might have please look at the bright side of life.

I don't think a broken heart can kill you, but all the alcohol consumption caused by a broken heart might.

My great grandmother died of a broken heart after my great gramps died.

I think people take the 'broken heart' part too literally. For instance, I've been in a scrap with family over the last couple days about stuff that happened a couple decades ago, but cut me pretty deep and effectively broke up the family. Its been bothering me so much, that the stress was actually starting to manifest itself physically in the form of a tightness that alternated between my chest and my stomach.

I'd say that if i kept fanning that flame that sooner or later that tightness is going to turn into a heart attack...so technically i would be dying of a 'broken heart'.

that being said...i can see where profound sadness, like losing a mate of 5+ decades, a child, a parent....or anything that affects you that deeply could most definately kill you if you let it.

I've heard of married couple one dies the other soon follows, natural circumstances... Yeah. Emotion is an amaziblgy powerful thing that does have physical manfiestations.

If you ever suffer (and i hope you never do) a massive emotional shock...it literally does feel like your heart has been snapped in two...I hope you never experience it. I guess when that happens some will simply give up and die. Nothing to do with going on a Charlie Sheen breakfast!

yes, broken hearted person have a tendency to think of suicide because of painful broken heart. all you need is find a person to tell about your problem so that you can fight it and overcome depression

I have been in a very similar situation. I am only 25 and I feel like I will never find love again. Someone hurt me, and what hurts the most is that we grew up together, and we have known eachother since w ewere 9 years old. I would have to delete the last 16 years of my life to not have any memories of him.

That being said, It has taken me about 3 years and I am finally dating again. And I keep trying to find him in someone else. Same mistake, over and over.

I have tried to NOT focus on the pain and the loss. I have tried to create new dreams to go after. THERE IS life after loss. And you CAN NOT allow this one person to ruin the rest of your life, no matter how important they are / were to you.

The past is GONE, and maybe you lost that person, because you have something better coming to you. DO NOT LET Anyone take away your most valuable gift of LIFE!

People die of broken hearts all the time. When a person's spirit is crushed, the body soon follows.

Yes I do think a person can die of a broken heart. This can happen if a large amount of stress hormones pour into the system. The body can feel such as huge emotional burden that a person just dies. The feelings would have to be beyond intense.

A broken heart as we talk of it doesn't mean physical damage to the heart.
It is about the intense emotional strain of the hurt we feel and the stress which results from it. This can be so intensely painful that it inhibits our abilty to function and places incredible strain on our physical, as well as mental, selves. This can take person to breaking point and can cause them to give up.

Yes, I believe it is possible to die from a broken heart. I have seen too many instances of partners/spouses dying with in short periods of each other, without obvious health causes, to believe otherwise.

yes, it is possible but in this you will die in a miserable condition.

I don't think it's possible to die from heartbroken, but dealing with disappointment or not being able to think straight and dwell in the past relationship is a biggy. Find a new hobby, someone to hug and listen to your story might be good if it's not happy then it's not yet over.

I would just say we die but life goes on and only 1 thing left there memories. they can be sweet as well as bitter.

I would recommend you consult a counselor. Getting hurt & heart broken are the most painful punishments to anybody. Instead of living with the pain it is better to get over it. We all get to live only once, why not live it to the fullest happily?
