Good job by Gov Palin and also by Biden.

It makes it hard to understand why Palin can't do better in these one on one interviews. I mean, she was a disaster in those. I saw the Alaska debates weeks ago and couldn't understand why she couldn't answer simple questions from Couric.

Good debate. I enjoyed it. Biden talking about being a single dad definately won some women voters though.

That's good to hear, AG. I haven't caught the news yet - actually I am pretty sick of it all but I was curious. Bizzy working right now.

You got that right about the hubby. She must be doing something right! He looked better before I guess her PR people made him shave his 'stache.

I was pretty worried though because I have to say she came off like an airhead a few times I have seen her. She does have experience with local and state gov, but I think she is way out of her league.

I mean come on because you can see Russia from your yard (which she can't) that gives you foreign relations experience? LOL.

Hey I wear imported shoes, will I qualify?

Yeah, but it was a park with a VERY short field then. But the key is that you say, "as I thought she would".

To me, that's the biggest problem with America right now. Too many people (not you specifically, Barry, but in general) are entrenched in their political beliefs and that prevents them from seeing the bigger picture. They go into watching the debate with certain expectations for each candidate, and then, "Lo! and behold!" those expectations are met.

That's one of the nice things about not being attached to any political party. No party line to toe, and no expectations going in. Wait, I just realized something. I said I had no expectations and those were met, too.

The down point for me is when Sarah Palin said the VP should have more power. Yes, more power. Biden's response was right on target. He simply reminded her of what the Constitution says, and that's all. Now, don't get me wrong, Biden wasn't perfect either, but Palin's slip up of admitting her plans of more power was the worst part of the debate IMHO.

One other thing I noticed was that Palin was trying to slam Biden for his experience in the Senate, but then I was thinking to myself, "Gee, doesn't McCain also have the same experience?"

Anyway, I think the debate went fairly well, and it kept my attention for the full 90 minutes. Whether someone believes anything they say or not, it's still important to hear what they have to say, and how they handle themselves under pressure.

The next month is going to be more interesting than the past twenty-four (or have they been campaiging for thirty months?).

Well it seems when it comes to politics, the less experience the better. Cause experience is seems just means more lying, more greed, etc. Anyway people were worried she would bomb because of her looking like an airhead on some interviews, but she really did good. Both of them did good, but her personality really shone through and she has a really good personality, more so than Biden. They both made good points. So far all the analysts are also saying how good she did and "she rocked".

I'm thinking I'm the minority here.
I think she started off with the deer in headlight mode,then switched into the "i'm a soccer mom just like all the rest of you middle class"<wink,wink> mode before settling into the "damn the questions I'm asked, I'm just gonna say anything I want about how good John McCain is" mode.

Debate wise, Biden answered the questions intelligently and to the point.
Palin was, to use a phrase that I learned here in the south, going around the elbow to get to the thunmb. I'm probably going to have to replay the whole thing to find a question she actually answered.

Considering her interview with Couric, she came off much better this time, but to still even consider putting her one stroke or heart attack away from the presidency is a crime in itself.

I did not manage to watch the whole thing, but Sarah Palin was certainly charismatic and charming, which certainly helps her out in this whole debate. However, she really seemed to be reciting rote answers and didn't stray from the same answers she has delivered before.

She did much better...But IMO, the reason is she didn't answer the questions and didn't have to respond to any direct follow-up questions, which is where she stumbled with Curic.

She said what she wanted, irregardless of the question asked. And, she even admitted this at the very start of the debate, saying she wouldn't respond as the moderator wanted her to.

She constantly reverted to her record in Alaska, even after Biden almost broke down when talking about losing his family and how he knew what it was like to worry about a child living through the night. Palin showed no remorse or humanity, and instead of addressing Biden, she again went off on a tangent and again talked about her record in Alaska.

She did attack Biden, but didn't mention a single plan to how she would actually fix things. If she did have a specific plan, please post it below as I seemed to have missed it.

She was asked her "Achilles heal" and instead of answering, she told us her strengths.

And, she had an opinion I found to be down-right scary...When asked about the power Cheney had, and the powers a VP should have, she said that the VP should have MORE power, even more than Cheney had.

I like the way she carried herself during the interview. It almost seemed she was the only one in the hot seat, it was up to her to perform and up to Joe not to gaffe again.

Sometimes I find her folksy sounding voice a bit much, but she hasn't changes that for anyone (just yet) and it sounds so natural and easy to relate to.

As for not answering some questions directly, maybe she will fit into Washington better than most think.

I know this is about Palin, but I thought Biden handled himself OK too, except maybe that grin got too much for me but I feel he was trying to show respect.

Aside from some minor slips (which 99.9999%) of us do anyway (not me of course ), I thought he went OK.

As with many debates, no real knockout blows but I think we all got a better look at both of them overall. I think I saw about 75% of it so others may have a different viewpoint.

  CNN ticked me off just now, though. An anchor made the comment that Palin "used folksy speech to show herself as one of the people but don't know if that will play in Washington."
  
  Palin may be from Alaska - but her speech is almost identical to the speech patterns I grew up with in Southern Ohio. People still talk that way today - saying "gotta" and "gonna" and "dagnab it".
  
  So I guess people from the heartland of the US - or who speak like people in the (middle class) center of the country - wouldn't fit in D.C. according to CNN. I guess that could be because those insiders aren't capable of understanding plain speech....

You're not the only one that grew up in areas like that I grew up in Missouri and Oklahoma most of the youth. Certainly each region had/has their own dialect, but I personally want someone that is going to be the Leader of runner up to our leader to act and speak intelligently.
She came across to me as very superficial.She was mugging to the camera and more worried about hitting that section of society than answering any questions of substance.
When I vote, It's going to be for someone that deserves it, not for someon that can lay down that "ol down home kuntry charm"

Palin is definitely not superficial. Superficial people don't make the tough choices she has made in her life. She is a deep person. Is she a polished politician? No. Maybe that's what people are looking for. Not me.

The US Secretary of the Treasury has informed the China Development Bank that the US has shipped $800 Billion of a new currency called the Amero, which is to be based upon the merging of the economies of The United States, Mexico and Canada into what is termed as The North American Union.

The current American debt obligation to China, currently based on the US Dollar, is now estimated to be the staggering sum of $2.5 Trillion, and which this new Amero will be exchanged for $400 Billion of this debt as the current American currency is set to be devalued by 50 percent before the end of the year.

Paulson, Jr., has been tasked by President Bush to lead the efforts to join the economies of the US, Canada and Mexico and is also the head of the North American Development Bank, the bi-national financial institution established by the United States and Mexico to further the merging of their economies, and the leader of the Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC), the organization created by the governments of the United States and Mexico to further the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

This is important to note as the final provisions of the NAFTA Agreement were implemented on January 1, 2008, leaving only the final merging of the economies of the US, Mexico and Canada into a North American Union to be accomplished, of which we can read:

If I had to choose between Obama, Biden, McCain, or Palin for PRESIDENT, I'd pick Palin with no hesitation. I am not a big fan of McCain, but do not like Obama or Biden at all.

I am really surprised at so many people who are into business and marketing that seem to support the Democrats. I've never seen anything like that other than on this forum.

Just to be clear, I never said I supported the Democrats. Only that nobody's mind was changed by the debates. And the idea that business people ONLY support Republicans is false. Look at the coffers of the Democratic party and I can guarantee there will be business people contributing in a big way.

It's scary when the VP candidate says they want MORE power than the Constitution currently provides. Now, other VPs may feel that way, but she said it out loud, so she either...

A. Made a slip
B. Doesn't understand the Constitution
C. Sees nothing wrong with it, so has no problem letting people know
D. All of the above

Any one of those reasons are enough for me to not want her for President. But, let me also say that I DO like some things about her. However, her artificial folksiness was over the top. "Hey, I'm just Jane Six-Pack, vote for me!". Yeah, right. The bad grammar, golly, you betchya, thinkin', workin', doin' routine got on my nerves real fast.

I am glad that she was able to hold her own though. I thought she was going to give a performance more like Stockdale did a few year's back. All in all, she did okay.

Maybe 2012 will finally be the year of the 3rd party candidate.

Please feel free to put Palin down for president this election.

Since this is America, you still (thank God) have the right to vote for whoever you want.
I myself, am thanking God that it appears that a lot of people are actually waking up to whats going on and will NOT vote back into office the corrupt people that have put us in the situation we are currently in.

Once again I am agreeing with Michael and hope that by next election we can fully get a 3rd party on the ballots in every state.

This election, I agree, next election, I think there is a very strong possiblilty. I think Americans as a whole, Republicans and Democrats, are getting fed up with the waste and corruption in out current government.
And contrary to belief, no where can I find where it says our country was meant to be two parties only.

It's becuase it IS a two party system - and the financial aspect of campaigning does not encourage a third party.

I do believe there will be a third party candidate that real be a real contender some time in the future. BUT - it may be because the candidate is so strong in comparison to the "other" parties. Third parties so far have focused on narrow issues or on one issue and will never succeed until they are able to run on wide platforms that apply to all the citizens and all the issues.

The two parties we now have are huge "machines" - even those who believe in conspiracies might be shocked at some of the manipulation that goes on behind the scenes to get these people nominated and elected.

2. Two parties or more are not specified by law or in the
constitution. In fact, George Washington wasn't in favor

So it's not the responsibility of the 600,000 registered democrats who didn't vote at all or the 200,000 registered democrats that voted for Bush???

Either one of those reasons alone would have more impact than Nader did in the state of Florida.

  The way our system is set up now it would be virtually impossible for a third party candidate to win.
  Even if they won the popular vote, the electoral college is not bound by any law to vote for that candidate. They can actually vote for whoever they want like, I don't know GW?
  
  By the way we have had one third party president in the history of the United States.

She looked good and held her own, but she didn't answer the questions. What's the point of the moderator asking questions if you're not going to answer them? And why didn't the moderator interrupt her when she avoided the questions. We saw the real Sarah Palin in the Couric interviews. She is not prepared to be "one heartbeat away" from becoming the President. She is just as corrupt as the next politician, she's currently under investigation for abusing her power.

You are right. I over simplified just for the discussion. You have to
really study John Adams and Thomas Jefferson to get a genesis
of the two party thing. I've always found it an interesting fact
that they became bitter enemies and both died on the same day,
July 4th, 1826.

I didn't think she did that bad at all, but the debate was kind of a snoozer.

I did find many of the questions to be a little boring. The debates are better with a 3rd party candidate of some sorts there to mixed things up.

I thought the primary debates with 7+ were much more interesting to listen to.

I know people expected her to mess this up, but, come on, any vp candidate is going to do a decent job.

  Here's a guy who has an interesting take on the debate. OK, slightly slanted against the Repubs, but I find him spot on in much of what he says. He does tend to use what some would say is offensive language to make his points though.

all politicians are the same. they take the same tax cuts, they all make bangin bucks, they eat out together they vacation together.

it doesnt matter whos in office this country is what We the people make it, not the commander in cheif. if you do yo studying the only decision a president can make without contest is to declare war. everything else has to go by the senate and the house or else it wont ever happen.

all of them take deals from whatever big name company wants a certain loophole or bill passed int heir favor. thats just the way it is.

I see your point, but it's not entirely true. It's not that Ralph Nader, or Harry Browne, took votes away from one candidate or the other. In my opinion, you should ALWAYS vote for who you want to win.

As long as people keep falling for the lie that they shouldn't vote for a 3rd party because a 3rd party can't win, there will never be a chance for a 3rd party candidate to win a national election.

Really. Think about it. Sure you like the 3rd candidate, but they can't win, so why vote for them? But guess what? They can;t win if enough people don't vote for them. It's not a paradox (as it may at first seem), but simple logic.

Vote for who you want to win.

For the record, this is more than just lip service on my part. I have, and will, vote for third party candidates if they deserve my vote.

p.s. By the way, the Jefferson/Adams date of death was a Final Jeopardy question, and I got it right - even the exact dates which were not part of the question.

No, this nation would have been better served if either of the two main parties got their act together, cared more about the American people, and presented candidates that wouldn't lose votes to Nader.

It's not Nader's fault he got votes - that's exactly what he was trying to do. But, remember that people also said Harry Browne took votes away from Republicans. Maybe not as many, but still.

Regardless of where you, or anyone else, wants to point fingers, it is every American's duty to vote for the candidate they want to win. Until that happens, this country will never meet it's full future potential.
