Do you have a collection?

I'm not much of a collector, but I guess if I were to collect something it would probably be cool games and puzzles. I wouldn't buy them based on "value", but fun and uniqueness.

I had a great baseball card collection as a kid in the 60's, but like many, it got lost over the years.

Do you have a collection?

Update: I have realized that I have a collection that has a collection.

      They collect dust.

      {mini perfume bottles, antique glass dishes and glasses}

      Profound realization #981a

... Just did early spring cleaning and actually dusted when I had this epiphany. (early because last year spring cleaning was in December).

I also discovered that I collect buttons. I have them all ensconced in little bitty plastic bags, by color and then again by types = OK this is sick.

This of course comes from my recreational shopping addiction days. (the buttons) - and the clothes horse get-ups that they came with also have their plastic bags ...

p.s oh yeh - i collect burned out circuit boards. They make beautiful industrial art when nailed to the wall all together en collage' (about 10)

      - Imagine me begging the technicians that came to fix the bank's machines (in my bank jobs) and then add all the internal modems etc than came with various systems at home (5) ...

      i collect toxic machine art.

I've had many collections over the years but only a few that I still have to
      this day.

      My prized collections.

Complete Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Figures Collection (probably worth
      thousands of dollars)

      Complete X Men Figures Collection

      Complete Spiderman Figures Collection

      Complete Star Trek Figures Collection

      Other assorted action figure collections.

Magic The Gathering Collection of about 30,000 cards

Years ago, I had card collections, that when I think about them today, I
      want to cry.

I had the complete card collections of:

      Superman
      Batman (2 series)
      Combat
Topps Baseball (1966 to 1972 complete)

And way too many more to count.

I also had a toy soldier collection that I recently repurchased. They were
WW II figures (German, American, Japanese, British)

Then there was my collection of toy guns from various shows and eras
      like:

      Man From Uncle
      James Bond
      Combat (Saunders Tommy Gun)
      WW II Guns
Western Guns (rifles and 6 shooters)

And then there was my game collection. I had just about every Milton
Bradley game that ever came out in the early 60s including the American
      Heritage series

      Hit The Beach
      Dogfight
      Battle Cry
      Broadside

Used to love those games. Battle Cry was my favorite.

My game collection was so big that it took up almost a whole room.

Oh, and then there were other card collections I had from TV shows.

      Adams Family
      Munsters
Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea

Oh, I also still have the entire Trivial Pursuit collection, though I haven't
      played that game in years.

I'll stop there because if I keep going on I'll by typing all day.

When I think of all the stuff I had and just tossed out...makes me sick.

** EDIT ** Oh crap...I forgot my record collection.

      Over 5,000 45s and over 500 LPs.

        to OP:
Apparently I collect cats Few too many real ones, and a unknown quantity of ceramic ones (most that my grandmother had made) and various cat-things around the house.
I also have the old Reader's condensed books I've lugged around for decades.
Only intentional collection is the miniature state spoons which is a 'small' collection - only because I must get it in that 'state'; and I'm not all that well-traveled so there's only a couple of dozen.

      Steven,
I must say I am surprised your record collection is so small...............
      It's actually a conservative estimate.

Truth is, I have no idea how many 45s I have.

But let's look at it this way.

I collected them from 1964 untill 1990 when I stopped.

      That's 26 years.

Most years I bought a minimum of 100 to 200 45s, at least covering
the top 100 songs of the year plus some of the lesser hits.

During the 70s, I went crazy and bought some of the most obscure tunes
as well, which brought my yearly total to between 300 and 400 45s.

So it's safe to say that if I actually went downstairs to the basement and
counted (please don't make me do it) it's probably closer to 8,000 45s.

But I wouldn't be surprised if it was 10,000.

I mean for crying out loud, I was insane enough to pay $20 for the
single "Tonight" by The Move. Talk about a rare record.

Albums? Who the heck really knows? I didn't start buying them until 1971
and stopped in 1990. Because they were more expensive, I didn't buy
more than 20 to 30 albums a year or about 1 or 2 a month. But then
there was a period where I was working (1977 to 1981) where I went
crazy, buying like 3 albums a week. So some months I'd buy as many
as 12 to 15 albums. And that went on for at least 4 years.

Truth is, I probably have over 1,000 albums but stopped counting long
before I ever got to that point.

Oddly, I don't buy music anymore at all. Most stuff is all over the Internet
      anyway, so what's the point?

My CD collection is like 50 CDs...that's it. And most of those were before
      the era of the Internet.

My basement looks like the library from a rock radio station. In fact, I
really thought of starting my own radio broadcasts but didn't want to go
through the legal hassles of getting a broadcast license...if I even could.

I was going to set up the transmitter from my home and play all this old
sh*t that nobody hears anymore. But like who would listen?

Anyway, it was a dream of mine that I knew was insane to even think
      about.

      But it was fun pretending.

What I need to get right now is a decent turntable. The one I have now has
to be 30 years old and hasn't had the needle replaced since. I don't even

    Steven,
I said that because I expected it to be morealbum-wise.
My collection is the inverse of yours, I have many more albums than 45s, I rarely bought a 45 and the only reason I have several thousand is because I knew a juke box vendor that wanted to get rid of a bunch in one fell swoop.
Otherwise purcahsed 45s would probably number less than 100,but I do have some very hard to find ones, Root Boy Slim, Insect Surfers.....things mostly from the new wave/punk era.
45s that I bought as a kid growing up got lost during my familys several moves.
    Same with my early albums.
One of the first ones I ever purchased was Time/Peace,The Rascals greatest Hits, and it moved from Oklahoma to Virginia with me, and I still have it, but it's really probably not playable.

As far as a decent turntable, both Costco and BJs have USB turntables for about $79-$89, ones that were selling for $120 a year or two ago. I have one that I have yet to hook up, so I cant vouch for the quality.

I had 2 criteria for buying albums which is why, relatively speaking, I
      didn't buy as many.

      1. Had to have at least 3 songs that I heard and liked. Because albums
were a lot of money (at least for a kid with only $35 a week to spend
growing up) I had to be picky about what I bought. I couldn't see buying
an album for just one song, especially if that song was the single. So
unless stations played several songs, I didn't take a chance...unless it
was a group I already loved. There weren't a lot of those but most were
like the prog rock bands of the mid 70s (Yes, Kansas, Genesis, etc.)

      2. If criteria one wasn't met, then if the album had no singles at all but
there were at least 2 songs that they played that I liked, I'd take a chance
      on buying it.

I can't tell you how many albums I bought that ended up really sucking
      big time.

That's why the album collection is so small, relatively speaking.

Sadly I know exactly what happened to my Atari 2600, Nintendo, Colecovision/Adam computer with all the games and accessories.
In a fit one day thinking they would never comeback I threw them all out in the trash.

It was literally 5 or 6 or more (I can't remember exactly) how many, but it was a lot.

This was back in the day before the internet/www,but not before BBSes.

I can't tell you how many times over the years I have regretted that.

Oh, at one time I had with a partner 23 Arcade games. Those were disposed of over the years by my partner. Something I also regret nowadays.

LOL Good on ya for reconnectin the NES! You're not the only one

I agree with you, games these days rarely are as good as the NES, SNES and even N64 classics. Especially 2D NES games, they are easy to pickup and play but challenging to master thats what you want in video games.

I've got an external harddrive full of a certain kind of collection... I don't think it'd be appropriate to divulge any more information about it here though. Haha

I too have a baseball card collection of about 250,000. The sad part is when I was younger my brother had a card set of some of his favorites that would be worth millions. We stored them in the attic and mother through them away. Did that hurt or what? I guess you could say I collect crosses because I make them and give them away to people that want one. If they pay anything to me I donate the money to a charity group.

    I collect tons of stuff.

I kind of have a compulsive collector's personality.

Hoping it'll work out for me in the long run as I eventually plan to open a gaming store (as in tabletop gaming, collectible card games, etc etc)

I collect a lot of sports memorabillia, including a monsterous sports card collection with a lot of complete yearly sets, rookie cards(even have multiple jordans), and I have some very classic baseball cards(mantle, maris, gehrig, etc.) -- unfortunately the old baseball ones I have arent the 6-figure types, but still worth a ton.

My most prized....and two that are for my retirement lol....

    1. '93 Scottie Pippen Jersey signed by BJ Armstrong, Scottie Pippen, Ho Grant, and Bill Cartwright(NBA Championship year)

    2. Walter Payton Jersey Signed by Walter Payton in '87

    3. Just got a Duncan Keith jersey signed by the entire 2010 Chicago Blackhawks

    4. A picture of the 2005 Chicago White Sox World Series trophy signed by Harold Baines

I've had collected so many things.

I collected comic books in the 1950's. Most lower numbered issues.
Baseball cards from 1956 - 1966 (multiple rookie cards of the like of Mantle and Mays)
    Basketball card from 1956 - 1966
    Football cards from 1956 - 1966

This was when you could get 6 cards and a piece of bubble gum for a nickle.

Multiple train sets from Lionel (from mid 50's to mid 60's)
100's of albums from the mid to late 60's
Life magazines from mid 50's to mid 60's

I had to throw all of these away. We moved and I didn't have a place to put them. Probably a couple of million dollars down the drain. Makes me want to cry...now that I know what they were worth now.

    Beanie babies
Hooters of America calendars (have all but the first 4 calendars they have made)
    coin collections
    Native American art
