    You know what's strange? Ken T sent me a PM about the same article at almost the exact same time you posted this.

    I've some some looking into this, and while there are some problems there really aren't all that many, especially if we compare them to a list of problems with oil.

    An interesting point of the article is that during the night, electric companies have a lot of surplus energy because they need to keep the turbines running and just about give power away at these times to industry.

    In reality, the report claims the price of electricity could actually go way down if agreements could be made to charge cars overnight because this power is essentially being produced for "free" and the power companies have no one to sell to at 2 AM.

    So charging a car over-night wouldn't impact the grid at all, although some very local areas/specific neighborhoods may have to upgrade.

    The report also says an EV takes about the same juice as 4-5 big screen HD tvs and no one gets worried about the TVs.
