Chilean Miners

I just needed to say that I'm praying for the safe rescue of the chilean miners tonight, it makes all our other worries seem so trivial.

God speed.

  • A local guy here in Colorado is heading the rescue, so we've had a lot of coverage about it here.

The coolest thing is how they are all "fighting" to be last to be rescued, letting their bros go first.

    Good luck to them all...
  • Hey its good news that now the workers are coming outside and all are safe .. some mentally disorder is there but soon they all will be safe and fine ...

    • It is great news some have been rescued, and they are ahead of schedule. At first it sounded like they wouldn't get out until Christmas time.
  • kudos to the Chilean Government... +100

happy to see that they are healthy and in good spirits
  • It is absolutely incredible that they are alive and being rescued after this amount of time.

This is the epitome of the story with the happy ending.
  • I believe God is in control of everything and I am also praying for the safety of everyone. God bless us all.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • 5 miners are out. Cool
  • The rescuers are fantastic - 2 months ahead of when they first thought they would get them out. Give that man from Colorado a medal Kurt!! and all the others too. They're all working without a break until they get them all out.

I was a bit worried that the tube just stopped on its descent.

I'm sure someone will make a film about this. The live pictures down in the mine are so clear.

6 out of 33 rescued and the 7th just about to get in the capsule - come on!
  • It's only now that I realized the dept was as tall as the tallest building in the world: Chile miners trapped

    Good job to the rescuers.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks

    • Wow that's incredible! Thanks for the link Mark, I hadn't seen that diagram before.
  • I didn't realize they were that far under, either - that is one hella deep mine shaft!

That graph in Mark's post (post #10) also shows current rescues -- they are up to 17 of 33.

After all the bad that goes on, this is hope for humanity.......wars, hate, murder, crime......

Yet the whole world waits, watches, and cheers for the heroic rescue of 33 men. Yep - there's hope for us yet.

    • I was watching Morning Joe this morning...They were playing tapes of the nasty political debates and the anchor was talking about the debates, when Dick Barnacle interupted and shouted, "Please put the miners back on, I'm begging you!".

He was joking, but he was also being very serious.

PS...I love that #2 guy. Chi! Chi! Chi! Le! Le! Le!
  • The pace is really picking up...3 more up in the last hour.

    26 up, 7 to go + 5 rescue workers...
  • Luckily I'm off work this week so I stayed up last night and have been watching progress most of the day.

    God bless those rescuers.

I just hope the miners will be allowed some time to themselves and their families without the media intruding. We all want to know their stories but it's been one hell of an ordeal for them.

I agree HeySal, it does restore your faith in human nature when you see something like this
  • I have not read this thread however, I am quite touched by the events and my thoughts and prayers go out to the miners, their families, and all involved in the rescue.

With as remote as the chances of their survival and rescue had been at the start and how it is ending......it makes me feel like anything is possible when the right minds combine efforts....next, let's tackle some type of Cancer with combined International efforts.

  • Really thank God for the miraculous and smooth rescue. Things like this make one have faith in the human race again.
  • They're UP! ALL of them. What a awesome site to see that last man up. I still can't believe they were able to do this.

    Welcome Home Guys!
  • The last miner has been rescued now, I'm very happy
  • I'm exhausted! I feel like I have pulled each and every one of these guys up by hand using a rope and pulley! What a ride! I can't go to bed until all the workers are up, as well! (And it IS getting late here!) Just gotta see them all up and safe!

What a tremendous, emotional and exhilarating day it has been! I am so thankful for each and every one of these men and for all those who have contributed to their rescue!!!

@Kurt: I almost feel like I know the guy you are referring through simply through your connection here at the WF! This truly has been an International saga!
  • Since we are boasting connections, ect....take a look at this link:

Pa. Drilling Firm Basks In Glow Of Chilean Rescue : NPR

I know nothing of this company other than it is here in Pennsylvania and they have been on the news much of the day.

Also, if I am correct, the guy who ran the rig to drill was from Texas. Pretty awazing when it all comes together.

    • Congratulations to all involved in this incredible rescue. The whole world held its collective breath until they were all safe. I'm sure the power of the world willing them to safety had something to do with the success, we were all behind the resuers.

It just shows what can be achieved when people pull together. What a pity that this can't be done to end wars and poverty etc.

My thoughts are with all the rescued miners, their families, the companies producing the equipment and the rescuers who will come back to earth with a bang now this is all over.

      Well done!! xxxx

  • It was absolutely heart-warming to see the miners coming out to see their families for the first time in months. I commend everyone that helped out in the effort and it made me appreciate my time with loved ones that much more.
