I've seen Leo try and do roles where it just doesn't work. Haven't come across a role that Depp couldn't take on yet.

  But I have a really low opinion of his acting in most everything I've seen.
  
  They both started out as pretty boys,Depp in 21 Jump Street, DiCaprio on Family Ties I think.

I think it is very difficult to say who is the best. Both are deep, mysterious, powerful, goregous eyes. Both are looking handsome. In particular, I voted for Leonardo DiCaprio is the best actor. His films are really great. his latest film, Shutter Island, or Inception of the film are impressive.

.. but i have to agree Johnny Depp is superlicious and a fantastic actor. One of the best.

* you can't believe i am the last person on earth to see leonard dicaprio in 'Titantic'? (I have seen so many fricking versions I just assumed it was just another one)

My vote would go to Johnny Depp - I do like Leonardo DiCaprio and they are both good to look at, but Johnny Depp is just an amazing actor. He takes on some really strange roles and I think may be a bit eccentric himself, but his acting is just incredible.

Great question and equally as tough. I'd have to say Depp edges Leo out in acting skills, but Leo has been on point lately more so then I ever remember. He's getting old and needs to become a better actor as his looks fade hahahaha

But seriously, Johnny Depp has shown great versatility as an actor and is convincing in the roles he plays. He has played a street performer, a mafia infiltrator, a tragic freak, and even performed in a musical with his own singing voice, and all sorts of other difficult roles and made them very real. That said, sometimes he injects quirkiness into some roles that doesn't always work. (Hope he kicks his alcohol problem.)

Leonardo Di Caprio is good (it might take actually shooting a film with bad actors to fully appreciate this), but tends to sort of play himself, so plain hasn't shown Johnny Depp's range.

What do you mean best actor? I do not think you can really say. Depp has done more and been around longer..but right now I think both are massivley powerful actors at the top of their game. I think I read Caprio was the biggest movie star of 2010. I like both actors. Best = I do not think anyone can define it.

Johnny Depp is certainly an extremely versatile actor. I dont always like the roles he plays (eg willy wonka) however his Jack Sparrow was outstanding both for its acting genius and the genuinely convincing English accent, which is rare.

I have never liked De Caprio but having lately seen Shutter Island and Inception I have to admit he was very good in both, in fact in Shutter Island he was brilliant.

Another vote for depp. BLOW was simply unbelievable. Plus, I know lesbians who have a crush on him dammit.

I watched one of his interviews on the actors studio and it was fascinating to see whats going on inside his head.
