ie. For sharing a site URL, or...

Person A: Is using a smart phone to view a site with a QR code on that page.
Person B: Also has a smartphone; Can they read the QR code straight off the other phone screen?

Here is a random sample in case someone has two phones and/or a friend nearby, thanks:

Works on my 3gs, shouldn't have a problem reading from other phones. Unless you have an earlier smartphone (like a regular 3g etc) where the cameras aren't that good and can have a hard time picking up the image correctly from another screen.

I use neoreader though and it worked fine

They actually have codes built in to help align and scale the image. If it is clear, and the aspect ratio hasn't changed, I imagine it should work. SOME phones MAY change the aspect ratio though. By aspect ratio, I mean that the width may be scaled more or less than the height. Even a small variance could play havok with something like this.

      Good point Steve,
I know QR codes are primarily for reading off of print ads, product labels, etc.

just fyi when i did the scan using the 3gs off the android screen the url did appear but it was encapsulated with other characters so wasnt able to directly open the url? i just did it again using a newer image taken with the android and it did the same thing - i will try with another reader in a little while and see if there is a difference...

as long as the screen you're reading the QR code from is clear enough, it should work.

I remember once when I went to the cinema though. They emailed your ticket in the form of a QR code which you had to print and take with you to enter the cinema. Stubborn as I am I figured it's easier to just have it read the QR code from my phone screen. --> NOPE, didn't work! Probably because of too much glare or something.

    Different story though, sorry

The only problem could be the size vs. the length of the text. The more text you try to put in it, the more detailed it'll be. If you then try to make it small enough to fit a phone screen you could get a problem with the nuances in the code being visible for the camera.
