Couldn't agree more. We got bigger things to worry about then whether or not the world is going to end. I think we will run out of water and global warming will take over before any 2012 End of The World crap happens.

If you really want to worry about something - even something TRENDY like the 'end of the world' - why not worry about something you can actually do something about?

Like sending your money to starving children all over the world? Or working in a homeless shelter kitchen to feed people?

Or supporting disabled war veterans or citizens?

If the world ends there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about it. Why waste your time?

... and in particular here in the Worrier Forum Off Topic Grill - we are sick to death of this stupid superstitious topic.

Patricia: the problem with that, is that their belief that the world is going to end gives them the perfect excuse to do absolutely nothing about anything. Other than that catch-22, your post is spot on.

The whole 2012 is the end of the world prediction came from NOTHING.

Its simply based of the fact an extinct civilisation called the Mayans were VERY good at astronomy and predicting the suns solar cycles, they created a calendar that predicted accurately when each one would occur (the sun goes through various cycles of intensity and solar storms/flares etc...). Their calendar ended on December 21st 2012.

So now everyone believes simply because their calendar finished on that date, that is when it is the end of the world. Instead of perhaps...you know they are an extinct civilisation from a long time back, 2012 was a long time in the future for them, they had to stop the calendar at some point. Not to mention the sun will just move onto the next cycle.

What could happen is a particularly nasty flare comes are way at that time, potentially killing our electronics.

The end of the world is one of those fads that never goes out of style - they just push the date ahead a few years after we pass the latest earth ending event.

It'd be a fun niche to get into, at least until the day after the world didn't end - just your traffic, while the bills still kept coming in. It therefore fails the evergreen test and will have to be a pass.

If your scared go to church. If the worlds going to end in 2012 then so be it. With everything that's gone on in this world, I don't know how we are all still here. from nuclear weapons, to world wars. The amount of killing, criminal activity. Humanity itself is a disgrace.. There are the people in the world who want to do good, but the majority of people don't care for there neighbor anymore, but would rather have what they have and do anything to get it. I think this earth is beautiful & we are ruining that. If the world does end in 2012, we as an entire entity deserve what's coming. I say bring it on 2012, COME AT ME!

Btw it's not 5 month, it's December 2012, we're in 2011. That' 18 months away.

my outlook is a little different from yours. We have been brainwashed into thinking that people are bad, that humanity is a disgrace...

I feel it's the opposite...most people are basically good, and mostly we care too much but we have too much on our own plates and not enough resources to feel like we can make a difference. Yet, look how we help each other during a crisis: floods, hurricanes, forest fires, tornados, earthquakes...people come together to help each other and that's when my faith in humanity is restored.

People all want the same things: to be loved and to love, to live with dignity, to make some kind of meaningful life. Don't be blinded by propaganda that shows you only the bad stuff. Bad stuff sells...good stuff, not so much.

In 2012, I think there will be a shift in consciousness. Humanity will change for the good. It will not be the end of the world, but the beginning of a new and better one. Remember, that all that matters is how gracefully you get through the bad times, so that you can cherish the good times to come. And what you think will determine your own outcome.

I look forward to the future, with all the challenges, upcoming changes. Everything.

Fearful people can be controlled so don't let yourself be one of them.

I'm going to climb to the top of one of the towers of the Humber Bridge and see if I can catch a glimpse of the coming apocalypse before it's all over. I can't wait.

Holy Cow, Michael. Outside of that bridge there's a whole valley in central WA that is clouded over like that very often. It's a strange feeling to look down on it from the highway above.

I'm thinking if you want to watch the apocalypse St. Maries Glacier/Alice area is a great place to do it from. Good safe distance from a major population center (Denver) that you can see far below in the distance. You might just run into Kurt up there and you guys can sort out what business you can offer survivors - assuming there will be a few.

As far as I can tell the Mayans didn't make any predictions that the world would end in 2012. They simply stopped at 2012, they had to stop somewhere. Well if we all die in 2012 we will be either oblivous or with our maker. If it doesn't end we will all say I told you so. Business as usuall either way.

I worked with a guy in California one time and he told me a story about when he was younger. His mother preached to him that the world was going to end in 1976. He was told not to get a job, don't worry about a driver's license, and don't even worry about going to college. He simply believed what his mother (and faith) had told him. He ended the story with...

"And then 1977 rolled around and REALITY hit me square in the face."

Sure its fun to wonder if the world is really going to come to an end, but there is no reason to fear it. If it really does happen, its not like your going to be able to do anything about it.

Not going to happen in 2012. No predictions have ever come true that have put a date on the end of the world. It just isn't something we are meant to know. So stopping worrying and keep on living and loving those people in your life that are important to you. Don't worry about what is to come because I am sure you have got enough happening in your life now that you should be focusing on.
