"Gasland" received strong critical acclaim and takes a critical eye toward the practice of hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking,"...

... a process in which several tons of highly pressurized water and chemicals are injected into the ground, allowing valuable natural gas to escape for future use.

The practice is decried by most ecological experts for destroying ecosystems and polluting groundwater.

The powerful energy industry has kept the actual content of fracking chemicals secret from the public.

    This doesn't surprise me. Most of our legislation seems to be happening in back rooms now with the public completely uninformed and disallowed to know what is being done to us until it is done. Press has not be free for some time - I remember many arrests during the last elections. In some places it is illegal to film cops no matter how violently and publicly they are abusing someone.

    Doesn't suprise me at all unfortunately.

    The natural gas issue is big down here in Oz too with an estimated 50,000 gas wells coming soon. And we are now being subjected to massive TV ad campaigns by miners telling us how good it is for us and our economy.

    Kurt - I remember at the end of the 80's when I was out there, they were using old mine shafts for dumping radioactive waste and scientists were demanding they stop because it was causing dangers of earthquakes or some such. Not sure if that stopped them though. Feel any trembles out there coming from the direction of James peak?
