It's been a shocking few days here in Vic. Aus.

We had a horrible day yesterday with temps of 46-48 deg. c and winds you would not believe.

This has given birth to bush fires that have basically engulfed our state. Over 65 people have died so far and over 700 homes leveled.

Friends of ours who have 2 beautiful daughters are still missing and unaccounted for.

We are hoping and praying they are in good health, but unfortunately they lived in one of the worst affected areas.

Mother nature at her worst!!!

Please send your prayers to all of those still missing.

Kind Regards

Brett.

Hi Brett - I live in Western US so I know those heats - and winds, but it's still hard to imagine them when we have people freezing to death over here in the Northern states.

I hope you are evacuating if sage fires can reach you. Keep us posted that you are okay or evaccing or whatever - and trust we will be sending you the very best of vibrations for your safety. Godspeed.

      Our friends are still missing............

      Such good people.

This is definitely one of the worst events in Australian history.

The death toll is now at 108.

      Those poor people.

      Thanks again for your prayers.

Brett - keep the updates going so we know you're okay. Let us know if you evac, too so we know you are safe.

Perhaps it's time for all the Aussie Warriors in afflicted areas to give us a "hi" heads up so we don't need to worry.

BTW - Anyone know if AlexR lives in that area?

I've been reading the reports. Incredible loss of life...people roasted in their cars trying to out run the fires...very sad.

Some very ingenious survival strategy's though...like hiding in the pub cooler until the fire passes.

Aussie-Aussie-Aussie...tougher than a boot heel. Hang in there we're praying it will get better.

Cant escape the news of this horrible situation. What makes it all the more worse is that they believe most of these major fires were deliberately lit. Somewhere, someone is sitting watching this all unfold knowing they are responsible for loss of human life, wildlife, pets, property and natural landscapes.
I hope the police catch them as they are going to receive the full force of the law.

There is a fire about 20km from me still burning (Peats Ridge) and my home was pretty smoked out over the weekend but I cant imagine what the people in Vic are going through. I have always dreamed of living in a bush surrounded home but this really scares you and questions whether people should be living in wild places, its just so risky.

Good to see relief efforts already pouring into affected areas and that the week is bringing cooler weather conditions.

HeySal we are fine thanks. We live just on the edge of the bush. The fires were about 15 minutes away from us.

Unfortunately our friends are still missing, despite all our efforts to find them.

They were in Kinglake West, one of the worst hit areas.

Thanks again everyone for your kind thoughts.

Ah Gads, Brett. That doesn't sound good. I hope all the Warrior will is strong enough to tempt the fates. Strength and Courage, friend.

15 minutes away isn't comforting. We had a brush fire in S. Idaho/Oregon state line a few years back. I was 35 miles away and THOUGHT that was safe, but the next morning I drove the road beside the fire and it had traveled over 50 miles in just hours before they could contain it. Same conditions - severely hot and dry and major wind. Had that wind changed directions my safety of 35 miles would have been a freaking joke. We had a river just down the road so could have escaped, but without that river would have had no way to bug out other than outrunning it - and that's a pure toss of the dice and a very early start on it.
Be really careful. That stuff can travel as fast as that wind and as far as there is burning material to feed it. "On the edge" doesn't make me feel comfortable for you other than it sounds like you have a safety zone very near and you seem to be watching and minding it.
Hope you have your important things where you can get them out fast in wind changes etc.

I just want to say thanks to all the Warriors here who have been emailing us their best wishes during these fires, it is really appreciated by us here.

I live in the central goldfields, and only 90k from Horsham fires, and 70k from Bendigo Fires, and 60k from Ballarat.... right in the middle of that triangle, and it is a real worry.

It is now up to nearly 200 people killed in the fires and goodness only knows how many in hospital, and thousands of homes destroyed.

Where I live it is very 'suburban' and seems another world away from where these fires are, even though it is so close!

The never-ending drought of the past few years has made this fire a total disaster, the worst in our recorded history.

Our prayers and well wishes go out to those who have been caught up in this catastrophy!

Actually... the fires in 2002-03 were much more widespread but didnt receive this coverage as it was all national park rather than homes and humans (still a great loss in my eyes, but part of nature).

The problem here is not a drought, but simply climatic change resulting in less rain, drier lands and thus when a fire comes, alot more land burns alot faster. Add to that rapid population growth and people moving close to the bush, and its a recipe for disaster.

Remember that fire is a natural part of the world, it brings a renewal of life. But when houses are placed in fire prone areas there is great risk to human life and property.

This is an excellent article published this morning about how this sort of thing is just going to keep happening over and over again:

Why does everyone keep harping on climate change when these fires are already known to be started by Arson? I realize it burned so explosively because the area is dry - I've lived in desert areas before and have experienced those fires ---------but when they are started by humans we should concentrate on finding what humans were sick enough to do that.
It was bad enough they did it once, but that news report I read said that
a few of those fires were restarted after being put out.

We need to stop using everything that happens as a chance to say "climate change". Arsen is not climate change - It could be considered another form of human caused desertification, but come on - this isn't Mom Earth - this is sociopaths.

Now they are saying probably only one of the fires were started by arson. Others were natural.

I agree with you that people who start a fire anywhere are the lowest forms of life. even if it doesnt kill people, it will kill wildlife and nature.
Unfortunately finding evidence to catch them is extremely difficult.
Someone could literally drive past in a bunch of traffic and throw a cigarette from a window to start a blaze like this and unless someone sees them the police have no chance of catching them.
It must be very hard to investigate such a crime.

To Brett and ALL Family, Friends and Love Ones of the Australian Fires:

I am praying for your friends and all the people who are affected by this tragedy. That includes the people who have friends or family in those areas.

I realize this is no longer a mother nature issue but arson. However, I can totally relate. I survived Hurricane Katrina (my house did not) and there were friends and family missing for days, some weeks before reuniting. It was a horrible situation and one I can't imagine ever going through again.

The fact that, as one Warrior put it, sociopath arsonist, is behind this is unthinkable to me. I sit here and shake my head in disbelief. I want to do something more. Pray is powerful.

But, I remember when people from all over either came here to New Orleans right away to help out or sent us clothes, food, water and a million other things you don't think about until you're without.

Anyone looking to help out. Here's a place to start. If anyone knows of any other ways to help all the folks in Australia, please share them with us.

It's astounding to believe that just two nights ago, there were two more fires started by an arsonist in the area. Having seen the death and destruction that's already happened, they still lit more fires.

I have no idea how some people's minds work. What makes them think that way? People like that are just not fit to be members of society.

Now there's a pastor who is saying that the bushfires are God's punishment for Victoria legalising abortion: Pastor's abortion dream inflames bushfire tragedy | smh.com.au

Hello to all my wonderful fellow Warriors.

I'm sorry for the slow reply. As you can imagine, it has been a week from hell.

It is with deep regret, that I wish to inform you that my friends and their beautiful daughters have been found deceased in a neighboring property.

My sincere condolences go out to both the family & friends of Paul & Karen Rolands. We are all thinking of you during this extremely difficult time.

I can't begin to imagine how they are feeling......

This has continued to grow into the largest natural disaster in the history of Australia. Over 180 people have died so far with predictions that number could soar to over 300!!!!!

These fires have also claimed over 1000 homes. Yes 1000!

As you can well imagine, this has affected and will continue to affect many people for years to come. Having said that, I decided that I would like to create a "space" for all of those who have been affected by this horrible disaster. I have set up a blog @ VictorianBushFireForum

I am also in the process of trying to set up a forum @ VictorianBush FireForum/Forum. I installed phpbb, but thought that VB would be better. I have emailed the good people at VB in the hope that they will donate a free copy of their forum software for the cause.

If anyone has any suggestions or experience with forums I would love to hear from you. I have never had any experience with forums before so this is slowing my progress in helping the victims, friends and families of this horrible disaster.

Once again a big thankyou to all of you who have given me such wonderful support during this difficult time. I really appreciate you all.

      Warm Regards

      Brett.
