Just got my first Kindle book online. What a nightmare. If that was user-friendly, I don't ever want to see anything that isn't. When they say no-technical skills needed they have to be smoking something. I even had trouble after having to have someone else finalize the format for me. Holy cow. But it's done. Now I'm getting ready to do it again. You have around three weeks before I'm back on here screaming my face off about technology.

    Congrats Sal!

I hear you on the user-friendly part. I always think they really haven't met my type of user when I encounter those words where technical skills are required. :p

Anyway, just think, after that second one is up, why you'll be a pro at it!

Going to be going down that road myself soon and taking the plunge.

Yeah - I'll be a pro alright. I know just who to hire to get it formatted correctly and efficiently - thanks Diana! She does good work so when you think you are finished and find out that everything is all messed up - that's who to hire.

Although it's a good book, this one won't be on my best sellers list, I don't think. I wanted to get one up and know what I was doing before accidentally ruining the ones that will bring in some actually decent cash. I'm glad I did it that way now.

      Thanks Sal!

      Note To Self:

Self, hire Diana when ready to upload your your Kindle books online.

      There, done!

Anyway, I know the way you write and the work you put into your pieces, so don't discount a best seller just yet, girl.

Congratulations. Technology could have HELPED this, so don't blame technology. Did you see MY rant? Even trying to tell you how to do this showed how valid my gripes are.

The format wasn't the only problem I had. I also had one hella lot of fun with the cover, which I had several artists give me views on - and instructions for making the lettering more legible, centering stuff, sizing pics -- and then there's Terra, who still doesn't like the color. LOL.

At least my next book's cover is a complete no-brainer.

Now I just have 2 more months of intensive writing, then I get to figure out how to market it all.

Maybe it's time to go to the main forum and find out how to make money online with no knowledge, skills, or work.

            Haha you guys! :p

In my defense, when Sal sent me the cover and asked me to give her an honest critique, I told her, If I had to pick something to change, I would only change the color as it isn't my favorite. I also included that the color would not hinder me from purchasing it.

In other words, I thought it was great the way it was.

Hey, isn't skin pink? Hahahaha! I joke, I joke!

I still go up there now and again. I ain't skeered. More often than not, though, I find I don't have much to say there. Lucky them.

High Five, Way To Go, Sal! You will feel much more at ease after your second or third one. Let us know how it works out for you with sales, if you want to divulge any of that information.. Are you using any of the free days or the free read to the people who have purchased the shipping for the year?

      Keep those books coming!

I'm waiting to hear back from someone on another forum who has around 3 books using the five day free all together, which I don't think is a good idea. Hopefully he will post again to let everyone know. I think he is just experimenting, although these are not his first books.

        April,

One of the main reasons to use the KDP free promotion is get exposure to your books if especially if you are a new author on Amazon.

If you have all your contact information, website links etc in the book and you have a 1000 people download your book for free, that's 1000 people who now know who you are

The other advantage is that even though they get it for free, if they leave a review it registers them as verified buyer of the book. That kind of review has more credibility than someone's buddy who just posted a review without actually buying the book.

It's a worthwhile exercise if you are looking at a long term publishing career and not just looking for the money to start off with.

You guys should drop Bryan Kumar a PM and ask him about his Kindle Bookclub forum. There is some AWESOME information in there and some fantastic teamwork and collaboration.

It will cost you some bucks but it SO worth it.

        Di

P.S. Sal - I came to play in OT but you were not here :p

    You are very welcome HeySal.

One of the advantages of formatting people's books is that I get to read them

That book of Sal's is really good. I learnt a lot from it.

I seriously think it can do very well. You just need to market it. I am going to send you a few tips during the week. Just remind me ok?

Congrats Sal!! I know that must've been a major headache! Link to your book here so we can all see it and leave sparkling reviews, hehehe

My husband does Word file to Kindle conversions - so if you ever need help, just send me a PM. He's exceptionally good at it - and does them all the time.

Holy cow - where have you been? I haven't seen you around in ages. Figured you got a job on the corner of nowhere and neverland and we'd never see ya again.

Don't count on it. Diana did all the conversion etc - and it still took me 4 tries to upload it unto kindle. When I say "techno-moron", I'm not just being kiddingly self depricating. If I couldn't research and write I'd be good for nothing but finding gemstones, writing, and curing cancer in dogs.

Bad Golfer? Hmmm - I could write a manual on that one. Kid you not. My parents almost threw me into olympic training. I hated the game but can drive a ball as far as any man -and a good one at that. The game is repulsive to me. LOL - but I know how. If I'd known how easily the best of em make huge cash, I might have forced myself to acquire a taste for it.

Anyhow - I'm just rattling now. That will NOT ever make it to my list of titles.
