Has Anyone Here Been Intentionally Overcharged???

Hi, l was on my way back home a while ago, and thought that l would like some KFC.

Yeah, l know, they treat chickens like crap. but putting that aside, there is another point to this thread...

I usually only spend about $10 to $13 for 2 pieces of chicken, small coleslaw. small potato and gravy, small chips and bun...

But...in this instance he charged $20, (AU)!!!!! WTF

I said, l don't remember prices being that high, and l thought that some gov, tax was to blame, but no.

And this was after he supposedly, reduced the price by putting it into a pack of some kind?

And before anyone asks, l did go over what l ordered, just in case he ordered double?

Then l said l would need to think about it, and he got ordered by another staff member to clean the floors, (probably needed the exercise, since he was seriously overweight for a 20+ year old).

And then l tried again, (l would try to order one piece of chicken to see if it made a difference) and guess what happened next, the other staff member that was serving me now, gave me the same order for $10!!!!!

I walked out thinking, how could the first one make a mistake like this, especially after going over it more than once?

Although now, l am suspecting that it is some sort of scam, since the invoice doesn't itemize anything, and without putting it into some sort of deal it probably would add up to $20 which l have never paid for a meal like this, and never will?

Easy scam to do, just ask for near full price, put it into the database as the cheapest meal deal, and pocked the difference?

I know that other well known food outlets, tend to overcharge when they are busy, etc,.

Anyone else had any sly of hand tricks like this when ordering?

Least it is putting me off KFC, a good thing, best to stay with fish and chips and pizza, least those places aren't run by 20 year old, budding criminals????

Shane

PS, yeah, l know that he could have been a beginner, but the other staff member didn't correct him or chew him out, he just seemed to get him out of the way. This smells fishy to me!

    Probably just human error.

Not to stereotype, but most people that work in those sort of places, dont really care about what they are doing.

Could of been a mistake due to lake of concentration, a simple error etc. I doubt he did it on purpose because it makes no difference to him what he charges, he gets paid a set amount regardless.

But, it is funny that you mention this, as I've been through the McDrive a few times recently, and three out of five times I was either over charged/under charged or simply given the wrong meal.

Yeah, l just mentioned this, because if they knocked off a buck or two from full price, and did this all day, they could probably take out an extra $100, out of the till, and no-one would be any wiser?

But as you are saying l will just assume that they are idiots, and l will avoid that KFC from now on!!!

It DOES happen, and it HAS happened with me!

A local taco bell(related to KFC!) has an LED display that displays the price. BELOW it, it says "If you are asked to pay a different price, call this number"! So OBVIOUSLY, it happens enough.

Right; the ironic thing about this is it is technically legal!

It isn't illegal to give someone a deal where they only save a buck or two, eventhough they could have saved, $10 like in my case, and then take out the difference as cash at the end of the day!

Hmmmm, it still sounds illegal. They are effectively stealing from the franchise, by offering the worst package, possible knowing full well, that they could have saved the customer a lot more, but want to pocket the difference!

I wonder if this scam is present in Banking type products or packages or the travel industry???

Anyone gone on a holiday package and been overcharged?

      Scary thought!

Actually, it is technically ILLEGAL! They are supposed to have the correct price displayed, and employees are supposed to declare EVERY PENNY they recieve for the product and place it in the till. There WAS once an exclusion for those tipped, for declaring it, but now even THAT is gone in the US.

If you charge a customer, and put even a little bit into your pocket, etc... and it wasn't a tip,etc..., it is CAUSE FOR BEING FIRED and possibly having charges filed.

What kind of question is that? You might as well ask, have you ever used a bank or a credit card.

He meant by the EMPLOYEE. We ALL know businesses often overcharge. HECK, I looked at a large ad for one of the biggest credit cards around yesterday. The interest STARTS at 15.9% for EXCELLENT credit, and is variable and linked to the prime. YIKES! The prime NOW is 3.46%, and among the lowest in history! It is expected to skyrocket. IMAGINE someone with EXCELLENT credit having to pay 33% interest! Someone with bad credit would pay about 40%, IIRC.

Then again, credit card companies can't handle bad credit risks like they did, so they have to bilk the better risk ones.

Restaurants here try to overcharge all the time on purpose. You know this is done on purpose when it is almost very rare to be undercharged. It is usually an extra dish or drink. That is why you have to check your bill very carefully before you pay.
