Do you think it is a good idea to ask deeply personal questions on the Internet to strangers for the vast numbers of other strangers to read?

    I will give you a definite..... Maybe.

    If you were asking "deeply personal questions" on a forum directly relating to that topic.... IMHO, it is fine to do it anonymously.

    For example, asking "deeply personal questions" relating to avoiding a divorce on the DivorceBusting.com forum... Is totally acceptable.

    What I like about asking on a forum is you get a lot of different perspectives and suggestions....

      That's an interesting perspective. I guess I am lucky in that I don't feel compelled to do anything like that. I do come across stories where anonymously asking stuff online has helped individuals. If someone needs to remain truly anonymous, then it would be wise to hide tracks online before posting a question that could come back to haunt them after identity is extracted via online tracing or something.

    I think asking strangers these kind of questions is what lure people into doing it - they might be too embarrassed to ask their close ones.

    You can see the question, but you can't see the questioner - and they know it.

    It's pretty pathetic actually you would need to ask a bunch of faceless strangers a "deeply personal" question....They would need to get offline and get a life!

    Not to mention 99.99% of people are comletely unqulaified to answer it. Their "opinion" or !view" is a FACT!

      You can't think of even one good reason a person might want to ask a personal question to a collective intelligence, even anonymously?

      Actually, this is a laughable answer. Sometimes strangers are uniquely qualified to answer personal questions. They may give you BS answers (but so would a loved one). On the other hand, being they don't know you they can also give you the most UNBIASED answer to your question.

      And 93.22% of statistics are made up on the spot.

      Finally, given responses I read in your 2 accounts, I would say that yes - you are an angry person (not that you asked - but I thought I would give my unbiased answer to that very personal question )

      I somehow missed your answer. I am impressed by the intensity and aggressiveness of your response.

      I initially assumed that it is a bad idea to ask personal questions to strangers online, but responses here actually caused me to rethink my perspective on it. That said, I don't ask personal questions online myself and believe that, in most cases, one should hide one's identity in doing so.

          Everybody is different. There is stuff that I've put up with that others would not be able to handle and I don't think that they should have to any more than I should have to be saddled with whatever challenges they deal with, lol.

          While this thread and my question started off as a joke, I've come to see that some individuals actually benefit from anonymous input and other people's perspectives without the baggage that accompanies relationships with friends and relatives.

    As long as no one knows who you are, you can ask the masses anything and hear their different opinions. The answers would be much more interesting than if you were to ask just one or two people. But there are some things that you definitely shouldn't ask a mass of strangers. For example, What should I get my partner for our 10 year anniversary? That is a good question. What is that thing growing out of my @#!? That's probably not a good thing to be asking a mass of people.

      Personally, I don't think it's a good idea. I also don't think it's a good idea to offer deeply personal information on the net.

      I doubt my views on this subject count because I read people doing this every day. Some people are just comfortable doing it, but I wouldn't be comfortable and it's not my place to twist someone's arm.
