I read the book (it's a BIG book) a while back - and the story has stuck with me. It's that good.

I was flicking back and forth from Under the Dome and the Black Hawks game.

    P.S. Go Hawks

I was doing the same thing! My wife's cousin is Andrew Shaw, so we had an extra reason to watch every game.

We didn't expect the Hawks to make it, but they came through with flying colors!

Oh, and to stay on topic: Under the Dome looks quite good. We'll be following it closely. I have a couple theories about what's going on, too, but of course I'll wait until they happen before I say "told you so". :p

I just watched the trailers, looks interesting. Thanks for the reminder.

Now that Game of Thrones ended I need a new good series to watch. Until they start the next season.

You'll just have to wait, TL.

I started reading the book. Got a few hundred pages in and just put it down. Lost interest. Although, it does make references to Lee Child's Jack Reacher, which I thought was pretty cool.

Yep. I'm feast or famine with King. The Dark Tower series? Devoured them. Nearly everything else? Eh. I tried this one because I read that one of the characters was a bit of an homage to Jack Reacher. I just couldn't get into it. I may go back to it at some point, but I've got a six book backlog at this point.

I get what you're saying about reading all night. If I really tuck into a book, forget the world. I'm not putting it down until I finish. It pisses the missus. She reads for an hour at a time and can't understand why I lose entire weekends to books.

LOVE the Dark Tower series. Just re-read all of them because an 8th installment came out

My next favorite from him is The Stand (the extended version - over 1500 pages).

Under The Dome I read when it first came out. I liked it - it was different. But I wasn't enthralled. Not in my top ten. But certainly enjoyable.

TL - I know what the dome is - from the book. In the series it may be totally different. Probably won't find out until the series finale...

It may well be different from the book.

I haven't read the book, but I did watch the show. I'll be watching it instead of Warehouse 13, I think. It looks interesting.

I have a theory about the dome. I don't want to spoil anything, but if this really happened, I would go to the exact center of the dome (on the ground) and see what's there. That may be way off.

      Some interesting sub plots.

Wow, that's a hard choice for sure. Fortunately I live in an area where a couple of those shows are aired twice the same night at two different times on two different channels. Make's life a little easier.

That's what I'm doing. Watching Under the Dome, taping Warehouse and watching the Longmire rerun at 11. Kinda sucks because the only three shows (which is a lot anyway) that I'd watch on Tuesday are all on at the same time.

OK, I read the story (not the book, just the WIKI outline)

This is a little different than I suspected, and the characters are different than in the book. But it still looks like a winner to me.

My first thought was "How long will it take the town to run out of oxygen?'
              But they have trees.....

And then "What if they run out of Diet Mountain Dew?" We all have our priorities.

I thought of that, too. Another thing I noticed was there shouldn't be any wind or even a slight breeze inside the dome, so why were the leaves moving, and women's hair blowing slightly.... But yeah, there's only so much you can do when producing a TV show outdoors. I just thought it was amusing.

Diet Mountain Dew (or diet anything) I could live without, however.

Yes, that was very annoying; especially when going back and forth between the Hawks game and the show.

The question of oxygen and air movement is addressed in the book - perhaps it will be in the show as well...

I watched it tonight - not sure what to think yet...similar and different at the same time

Like I posted - the dome in the series may be way different from the book, but I DID like all the sub-plots in the book. Some interesting stories.

I have not yet watched the first episode, but it's recorded...should be interesting.

It looks like Under the Dome may be another quality sci-fi series with something to offer besides killing aliens. Of course, that means it either won't last long or the network will introduce killing aliens, vampires or some other monster in order to attract bigger audiences. It's not that I mind a lot of violence. I just don't care for series that have no character development, no real story line and nothing but kill, kill, kill. I also want a quality story.

Wikipedia has synopses and links to each episode, though I don't find they really explain enough to catch anyone's interest; to me the show has been far more interesting than what Wiki describes. There are a few sub-plots and such.

There's no nudity, nobody blowing each other up every 5 minutes, and no extreme foul language, so most people will probably pan it. But it has my attention, having not read the book, so I'm curious as to how things will proceed.

Fringe was the same way for me. It started out as a semi-good show, then became better, and I was hooked after awhile; mainly to see exactly how they finished it off!

See, I find the show slow and plodding, but I felt the same way about the book. Maybe I'm negatively biased.

However, I loved Fringe. I still have the final four episodes DVR'ed and am waiting for a good time to have a Fringe Sayanora Marathon.

I've always found that Stephen King starts slow and takes his time building up to the climax, which bugs me but by the time I start getting bored I usually don't want to stop because I have to find out how it ends, lol. The Stand was an awesome read, but it took forever to get somewhere!

Agreed. I've felt that way about every King book I've read outside of the Gunslinger/Dark Tower series.

My wife and I watched every episode of Fringe. I'm a huge John Noble fan, because of the show.

King keeps me interested, but the mini series The Langoliers was a huge disappointment at the end.

We're still going to watch Under The Dome, but I know how it ends...and I think it's worth waiting for.

Hey! Are you guys watching Under The Dome? It's different than the book (at least the Wikipedia summary of the book), but I think it's quite good.

I told my wife last night that the secret is that the Earth is really a living eye ball and that the dome is a contact lens. I held a straight face for a few seconds. It didn't work.

          Claude -

I read the book quite a while back - and I'm surprised how much of the book is in the series. So far it's been running true to the original story.

It was a very big book and I've been happy with how they've maintained the original story line. The ending is a hoot in the book so I hope that doesn't change.

I read the Wikipedia synopsis of the book. I think I remember reading that there were two versions of the book. One was more violent and involved cannibalism.

I should just read the darn book.

Wow, I had not heard that. The one I read did not include cannibalism.

I have not watched the past couple of episodes (too busy) but they are recorded. If they do plan to make another season, then I can't imagine the series following the book much longer. When you read the book, you'll understand

The one thing I'm slightly disappointed in is that there will be a second season. I was hoping this was more like a mini-series for one season, where we'd get to see the entire story right now. But if they're adding a second season, perhaps there will be a third... a fourth? If so, they will have to deviate from the book to write enough new material to sustain it over the years.

Maybe I'll have to read the book. lol

I only read one of his books. Maybe his genre is not my type because I didn't read another one. However, I would like to give it another try. Any suggestion?

Well which one didn't you like? That might be a clue to which you should avoid.

If I was new to Stephen King, I would intentionally read something that I had not seen as a movie. I always like his books better than movies. That includes some really good movies. I just prefer the books.

I don't know if this is meant to be a limited series or if there are plans to make it an ongoing show.

When Revolution started I watched it - but as it went on and on and on I dropped it. What would have been an interesting 6-10 part series got to be "get captured and escape" over and over.

I seldom watch movies if I've already read the book as there's always so much more story in the book than can be shown in a 2 hour movie.

I read the book as well, but they said the show is going to go a different route. King said that he thought he wanted to take it farther, and from the writing, it looked like he could. The show writers said they were going to go much farther with it. The book kind of ended abruptly on a story that could have been a huge tome rather than a novel.

I love the mind of Stephen King. I thought the ending of the story was pure King - and totally imaginative.

Funny - I referred to that book as a "tome" when reading it. It was about 1100 pages or so as I recall - quite long for fiction.

Its nice to know others on here at the forum love the dome too. I quite liked the first two episdes that Im waiting for the season to get over and then do a marathon at my place for family and friends. Like movie night but better. Probably will have to cut it in 2 movie nights. Cant wait! Im not going to read the book as I found doing that spoils the whole thing. I usually wait till the series is over or movie sequels and then read the book.
