I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the end of the world may be coming yet again. We may have survived Y2K and the end of the Mayan calender, but will we live through Ragnarok, the Viking Apocalypse?

I remember reading about Ragnarok in some book on Norse mythology, but I didn't realize it was a date that could be calculated. Apparently, it's coming within the next 100 days.

    We did NOT survive Y2K! The last round comes in 2038! GRANTED, some call it other names, like the binary Y2K, etc... But it will be here. It may first hit as early as like 2032!

      I've missed the doom and gloom - sky is falling - we're all going to die - hysteria. I feel relieved to add another doomsday date on the calendar.

      It's not the doomsday I like - it's the day after when I wake up and the world is still rolling in place. The relief is euphoric.

    According to Norse legend, the apocalypse is due to be preceded by the winter of winters. Vikings believed that three freezing winters would follow each other with no summers in between.
    Now I'm thankful for global warming! Obviously with global warming we have staved off those three freezing winters with no summer in between, so there can be no apocalypse for at least three years. I'm going to celebrate by driving around the block a couple hundred times!

    I was down in NV a couple of days ago to see my old landlord and do some rock hunting - and he's got some renters that are preparing for Nebiru or however ya spell it. It's supposed to be coming close enough to destroy us in a month or so I guess. Is this the same prophecy or are we looking at 2 separate doomsdays - a spare in case the first doesn't get all of us or some such.

    I'm kinda jealous. I wish I could think of a doomsday that would kill us off real fast in one day so I could make the big bucks off it, too. All of the ones that make sense that I can think of are gradual events, so there's no gettin' rich quick off of em. Guess it's time to get my comparative religion materials back out and study up. There has to be some doomsday event to process out of it for next year, ya'd think.

        I knew that Nibiru was a farce - just didn't know if it was based on the Ragnarok legend (prophecy, whatever). You had more energy for it than I did looking it up.
