What is the deal with CREEPY Avatars anyway?

So yes I have been here since 2010 and yes I am just starting to post more and I noticed something...

Lately here on the warrior forum I have seen the most CREEPY looking avatars on the PLANET EARTH...

Yes my nose is the size of Texas but guess what I really dont care because some of these clowns are selling deals and they have the frigging creepyest cartoon avatars you have ever seen...

Please do yourself and my eyes a favor... Just use your own image. In sales it is best to be honest on the internet we lack clarity its better to clarify that you are human and willing to help. DO this by just using an image of your self, your face can put a potential customer at ease where as these images you see in the warrior forum are extremely weird... How can you be taken seriously if your pic is a little evil looking troll cartoon, no seriously. Be a REAL PERSON, with REAL PRODUCTS that You Imagine YOURSELF REALLY SELLING... Now if you want to use your company or some slick graphic that's cool in business you never want to sound small time because customers like to buy and feel safer from a company that is Big. Psychologically speaking...

Make Your Marketing message CONSISTENT by not having weird Images as your avatar its annoying and a waste of your time. Do yourself another favor if you are not mentally ready for a deal go to the beach then comeback when you are ready to upload an avatar that is more respectable... ENd rAnT

Holy Toledo! A nose the size of Texas!??? Does that mean that the Dallas Cowboys could play an entire NFL season inside your nasal passages? Impressed. Now that's a TOUCHDOWN!!!!

I don't sell anything here so it doesn't really bother me if I look like a clown on drugs.

I act like a clown on drugs anyway so it's fitting really.

Richard, I always thought your pic looked like a 70's porn star...on drugs.

That's exactly what it is Dan before I had to face reality and get a job on a building site. Age withered it away and the work dried up. Amongst other things.

The OP mentioned clowns, so I ran with it, foolishly, as though my youth had returned.

Now I will just cry and look back on my seventies heyday when they called me Dick, which is short for Richard.

I knew you were a fan.

Back in 1974, after several hundred requests, I signed a poster of me in my heyday and sent it somewhere in the states to some spotty 16 year old called Daniel Ribble.

              It was you wasn't it?

No, no, no! You've got it all wrong.

I get what the guy is saying. I've seen some avatars that would be more appropriate for an anti-social teenager on an MMORPG forum than for a merchant selling to other businesspeople.

Doesn't exactly inspire me to buy from them. Or even take their comments seriously.

      I am NOT a troll!

Not everyone wants to be visible online - when I started out I was under the radar due to a stalker. It got to be a habit that I was comfortable with.

For every person using a weird avatar there's probably two using a "good photo" - of someone else.

Same here. Even when the book chooses its cover.

I don't outright dismiss people based on an avatar, but I do keep in mind that we're talking about a conscious choice of how someone wishes to represent themselvs to a group.

If they choose a genuinely vulgar or violent looking image, I have to question their intent. Doesn't mean I judge them as a person, of course, but it does make me wonder how seriously they take any of what they're doing in this particular environment.

For example, I saw an offer a while back with one of those ugly B&W cartoon trolls as the seller's avatar. Sure enough, the deal was as bogus as the graphic.

I don't object to non-photo avatars. I do find the wisdom of some of them to be questionable if you're selling, though.

        I mean, seriously... a troll?

It's not a great photo, but it's reasonably current. That makes it unique.

Geesh, after all that talk about whether Vikings should be allowed to have a bender with Viking hats on?

Or go on a mass, murder spree of Great Britain, whichever comes first!

Disclaimer - l have an Irish background, so l can say the above without any Psychotic, Vikings knocking down my door; well the rabid, frenzied Rabbit out front, on a sailing ship anchor chain, helps!

I think that's what he meant. The complaint was from six months ago and you asked what's up with it. Well, nothing's up with it as the thread vanished six months ago.

Just a hint too and I'm not being a grammar cop at all and just trying to help but the first word on your website that welcomes people is spelt wrong. I thought you may want to change that. Seriously though, that genuinely was to try and help.

No worries. Sorry if it came across like a grammar cop. It was just the first word I saw so thought it would help to fix it. Believe me I make plenty of spelling errors too.
