Lead Generation - using Twitter

Hey Offliners!

So for those of you that don't like cold calling (I do) I just learned how to use Twitter to get your brand out in the local market and have people calling you.

I recorded a podcast with Ashley Stalnaker who explains how and why to use Twitter.

Before this interview, I really didn't see value in using Twitter for local consulting, but I get it now.

I still think cold calling is the way to go, but if you're not gonna do it then this may be a nice alternative. Check out my site for the interview...

    In my opinion Twitter is almost useless in generating leads directly for the majority of businesses. Could be good for customer retention but my preference for twitter is blogger out reach, news, and part of a content marketing strategy. It's more about authority, trust, outreach and relationship building that could help you in other ways.

    The people I know that have used twitter for lead generation, usually have super low price points, and they have mediocre success. It's not for everybody, that's for sure.

      Yeah, good point for sure; however, I never thought about a few good points that were made in the interview. For example, to your point, you can use twitter to position yourself and your brand by engaging with people who have good influence in your local market. Using Twitter you can get people who you otherwise couldn't reach to know like and trust you therefore referring you out.

      Ashley gave an example of how she tweeted to a local following she has about her sister's tax business and generated leads instantly. Just little things I had never though of before.

      I definitely learned a few things I didn't know before. When you think about these local businesses spending money on branding and awareness via TV and Radio, they are dropping some serious loot. I have clients spending 40K+/mo on TV (keep in mind I live in a major market) and I feel having a good Twitter campaign, and following some of those etiquette rules Ashley was talking about, may be a good cheaper alternative to TV/Radio. Let's say you get an endorsement from someone local who retweets a post or just posts something about your local business, it's like an endorsement from someone who may have thousand of loyal followers. Some pretty good ideas at least...I have to learn more, but it was a good start.

      I agree with you though, it's definitely not a fast process at least until you build a good following; however, for those people that aren't doing much in the way of lead generation, this is better than nothing and a good way to get people to notice you that may not otherwise.

        Using Twitter to generate leads is all about targeting and engagement. My little hack for building a local twitter audience is to follow the followers of local news stations, the mayor any local celebrities and pro sports teams. Then I heavily retweet reconstructed comments of these people's tweets to boost engagement and reach. After hitting about a 1% CTR (my personal metric of an engaged Twitter audience), I begin inserting tweets with links to my clients websites that are heavily centered on some sort of free offer to increase lead conversion.

        Anyway--it's a lot of tedious work and not worth the effort if you're good at SEO.....so I had my software dev team create a program to automate my processes.

        And....I'm in need of some beta testers for some Twitter marketing software my development team created in between projects.

        1. It follows the followers of "thought leaders" in your niche building a niche or geo targeted audience.

        2. It unfollows people who don't follow you back within a few days

        3. It uses a very advanced AI (wordAI) to reconstruct the tweets of these thought leaders and embed the reconstructed tweet in a RT of the thought leader and adding a relevant niche specific hashtag.

        This is my favorite feature because it builds an engaged audience and further increases your reach. In my personal testing people have NO IDEA this is a bot.....

        Right now, in my own accounts, I'm seeing about a 1% CTR on my bot tweets on a following of a few thousand.....about 10 clicks per thousand....TARGETED FREE CLICKS.

        To avoid the Twitter bot police, in my testing I've used Hide My Ass as a VPN...if you want to be a beta tester I suggest the same.

        Anyhow, I'm not entirely sure if I'll make this software a WSO but for now I'd like to offer it to the Warrior Forum community as my way of giving back.
