Yelp experts please help QUESTION??

I have a client that had a bad experience because a customer thought they were doing him a favor by posting many reviews from the same IP and computer. So then all of his yelp reviews were taken down.

Now he wants to start a new Yelp account under a new business name.

My question to you is. Does it make a difference if someone writes a review for a company first and then claim the business after one or more reviews have been posted?

Which is better, the business owner setup a yelp account and claim it before any reviews are posted or let people post reviews on your business and then officially claim the yelp business listing after?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Dylan

This seems very strange. What is to stop someone from doing that to their toughest competitors?

Yelp is shady territory. It's kinda like the Wild Wild West where the bad guys in the black hats are the cool ones and good guys get tossed over the pig trough.

It's sorta like negative SEO on Google. Can it happen? Will they allow it? Does it work?

Wow I wasn't even thinking of that! I try to avoid Yelp as much as possible because even though I've setup systems for clients to get their own customers to post reviews Yelp still takes them down.

So yes that is awful that competitors can do that.

On this occasion my client was getting lots of calls from their yelp listing and then all of a sudden all the reviews were knocked down. He later found out that a very well intentioned client made the mistake of over posting reviews.

Still just wondering if anyone here has had experience with Yelp on this issue. Does it matter if you setup an account and then have your customers post reviews or is it better to have customers post reviews first and then later claim the business.

Does anyone know if this makes a difference?

I think most people can tell if a review is genuine. They can at least get an idea of the product or service, and any major negatives.
