      You're new here, obviously.

For the third quarter of 2015, Groupon reported a loss of $27.6 million, compared to a loss of $21.2 million a year ago. Revenue was essentially flat for the quarter at $713.6 million. Excluding some currency fluctuations, revenue climbed 8 percent.

Because the task facing Williams looks so daunting, I was curious why he even wanted the top job at Groupon. I asked him to name the top three or four skills he thought made him the ideal candidate for the role.

"I think I'm a creative marketer," said the Groupon CEO

"So we'll offer Groupon stock at half off the regular price. Then take half of those stock sales as a fee."

Some of the flash sales sites are in trouble as well. Most of the big ones are worth less than the money raised.

I signed up for a flash sale site that sale luxury goods and never bought a thing. Most all the mens clothes are in XXL or in weird sizes.

Really the whole idea behind the flash sale sites is flawed.

"Lets sale $400 stuff for $200."

Wow why did nobody think of that before? If it were so easy to sell stuff below the cost to buy it and make money why weren't all these other people doing it before?

There is a way to make it work though; only sale one or two products a day or a week. You can scrap together some great deals in low volume but not in mass.

Or be Amazon and run at a loss for 20 years but its hard if you don't have Wall St and the power to pay off the media like Bezos does.

I have used Groupon a few times. I offer a lot of services. However, their model excludes me from selling 99% of what I do. I'm not sure how they keep it going when paying out about 25% of what a vendor normally charges. Couple that with their odd piece meal payment system and I can see how flawed their program is. I should have my head slapped for not shorting their stock 2 years ago when this should have been obvious to me.

You can't upsell something? You probably know the story of the heating & air guy who did tuneups cheap and had his guys point out problems to the homeowners and he'd upsell repairs and also maintenance plans and did very well with that.
