Does selling websites for $300 convert less than, say $150 to $200?

I won't be doing the labor so conversions are my main focus. I want to collect hosting fees and maybe a percent of backend sales for SEO / PPC which I will also delegate. Thanks for any tips.

The numbers here are simply to low... I can sell a $1000 website easier than I can a $300 one. I can sell a $1500 site easier than I can a $1000 one. $3000 and things will slow down a bit, but compared to say $2000 the slow down does not out weigh the profit difference.

You need to change the thinking a bit... what exactly are you selling? a website? or a platform for conversions? Websites are dime a dozen.. and your potential client can just as easy goto wix or the like. a platform for conversions becomes a whole other ball game. Information on a page is one thing.. a site with a collection of pages designed to provide an outcome is totally different.

If you are working towards developing outcomes ( conversions ) there is a premium that goes along with this, and the value is NOT how much something costs to create ( the website in this case ) but the value of the outcome itself ( # of sales or # of leads )

I personally design sites with the SEO needs already there... its kinda silly in my mind to build a site, and then turn around and have to do SEO work later... I think its sad actually. basically if you are going to do something, do it right. ESPECIALLY when you are looking to create busines relationshis where the intention is a long term relationship ( IE monthly hosting and on going services )

Kind the way I am reading what you are saying is you are going to get a 3rd party to build the site for next to nothing. you are then going to impliment some sort of landing page etc ( which you are not getting paid for outside of the cost of the build ) and you are wanting to survive off of the $35 to $50 a month in hosting fees ( and I will bet that number is greater than what you had in mind )

This is walking down a path that will beat you up. You sell 1 site a month for $300 and you get $100 a year hosting? you are looking at $4800 a year. with $1200 as your residual yearly. hardly a living. VS Sell the exact same service for $1000 for the build and $50 a month hosting being $19,200 a year and $7200 residual. - this at least puts you above the poverty level.

You have been on these boards for a number of months now.. a year? and you keep coming back with how can I get in offering this or that for free.. how can I do this for next to nothing.. you are grinding it out I am sure... but something needs to change. TRY charging more and see what happens.

Very well said. In short don't undervalue yourself.

Do you mean selling actual ready made websites or selling website creation to businesses?

      I mean custom made websites.

Have been running a campaign unprofitably at $300 for a site. I will take the advice to raise the price and test prices from $500 to $800 now. I've personally found more resistance at higher price points, it would be awesome to sell at $1k+ but my confidence is not there yet. Even say a flow of $700 sales, $30/month recurring, would work out quite well for me.

So no profit at $300.. I am guessing at this point you understand what your COST is to create one of these... ( dont have to answer ) but how much at $300 are you losing? how much profit is there at $700? Does $700 say once a month actually pay the bills? I will assume not.

The next question is being realistic... at $300 how many a month are you selling? can you expect to sell more at $700? the same? less? even at that price ultimately are you creating profit?

The ultimate issue is not the price.. but who you are placing the offer in front of. You need to target those that have been in business for more than a year.. show some signs of advertising ( flyers at the least.. radio ads, newspaper ads, craigslist, anything something ) this at the very least shows they are in the mind set to pay money for advertising and new leads / business.

It'll cost me about $150 to have the website made. My telemarketers are netting about 2 mockup requests per day (from another thread) each. It looks like on small numbers 1 in 10 are buying. 10 mockups add another $100 to the costs netting about -$120 per site.

Currently having a yelp scraper made. Using an autodialer should increase lead productivity a good amount.

If I can sell these for $600, and move 10 per month, that should net about $2,000 on the front end sale.

Then add recurring revenues, say $20/month.

Then upsell SEO, PPC. I think that's a good foundation.

Poverty wages to people in America are quite decent where I live, especially if there's growth potential.

That's my plan for now. If I can raise prices over time then great. It's a bit hard with newbie telemarketers to hit higher price points though and i have never been good on the phone.

    The sales price means nothing.

The actual value of the site means everything.

What's the content like? Ample? Targeted? How many links in? Domain name?

I'm showing them a mockup with a tighter sales structure: Headline and subhead, CTAs on the first screen, a "what makes us different" section fairly high up, a mini portfolio and testimonials, staff photos, locations etc

Idea is to convey how our design is better at selling than whatever they have (if they have something now)
