Hey Warriors,

I got my first offline customer for a website and now (music to my ears) they want me to help them with getting an online prescense. I need some help in this area as I know alot of you have been going into offline marketing. I haven't really focused on that area of Marketing its been mostly IM. I need to get a ebook or some advice on the best way to move this ship as I for see a flurry of new offline customers if this goes well.

Assuming this client has NO online presence (social media or website), I would set up a gmail account for them and use this for all the Big G goodies (feedburner, blogger.com, analytics, YouTube etc).

You could use your personal FB logon to set up a FB page. The owner most likely won't give you access to his/her own FB page for this.

Get as much off-line sales material as they have to offer using this for blog/article marketing as well as a start to keyword research. Don't forget to use keywords for everything you touch for them.

It's easy to turn the offline info into a short YouTube video, but make sure the keyword is in the file name, the title, the description, and SAY they keywords in the video as well. Use the URL as the first thing in the video description. "widgets.com presents..."

Educate them as to the needs of social/internet presence. Mock-up something, then give them the "Yes" or "Modify" options in your "Look at this" email about what you're doing for them.

Also, who will monitor the social aspects? YOU? A Staff member?

Don't forget pingomatic, backlinking, web 2.0, email capture, possible subscription sites, and FB like buttons/boxes.

I could go on, but this is a good start.

Thank you guys. THis one just kinda fell on my lap. They wanted me to build them a website then started asking questions about getting there name out there on the web and it was music to my ears. Whats the best way to get them on a plan that I can get passive income like a monthly subscription or something for my services for upkeep

Go "attorney" on them and negotiate a monthly retainer. You could get $7500+/- a month if they want you full time, but this would be after you got started, with success stories to back it up.

Have a dollar per hour in mind, then see what they are willing to pay by asking how much time commitment they want. They want 10 hours a week, and you'd like $30 an hour, you start with $1200 a month.

This is highly subjective and open to much debate. Only you and your client can get that number.

It is near impossible to give advice without knowing more detail about the client.

    Thanks Mark,

This client is a prominent attorney in my area and they have several other attorney friends that if this goes well can really grow my offline empire. I want to make sure I do this right the first time even if it means not making any money off this one I still will be able to get more exposure and clients and make it all back within weeks as the building they are in are nothing but other attorneys and local businesses with little or no exposure

      Ok now we're talking

Attorneys, if you keep them happy can be a great source for referrals.

Without knowing the ins and outs of this particular client here are some pointers:

Does your client specialize in any particular area of law?

If so, ranking for local terms can be fairly easy and highly beneficial to your client. If they specialise in many areas of law then the general and specific terms can be fairly easy to rank for also. You can also think about PPC, Facebook Ads and Press Releases for exposure.

Videos, if done correctly can also rank on page 1.

That solves part of the traffic issues.

The next part is conversion. You want to make sure you build the site with conversion in mind, ie a direct response site. Have a way of capturing details for follow up. Perhaps a video on the site from your attorney to build instant trust etc etc.

Just some basic pointers for you.

      Riz

Now we are cooking! Yes the client specializes in only 3 areas of law but they go hand in hand. Whats the best way to approach this to get her site ranked also they want to stay away from social media (facebook, twitter, myspace) why I dont know they just do so thats out. I plan on building a local news site and sell advertising and offer that in a package with what im doing to get good monthly income from that.

I think you already knew lot about them. You can now do research about the keywords you will use for their site to help searchers, that needs the services of the Attorney, find their site. I suggest that you design a website that is professional looking so that it can get positive impression from visitors. You can also get useful information from them that you can use as content for the site.

Depending on their law specialty I think they are smart to stay away from Twitter, FB and MySpace (especially MySpace). Now, if they were in a field related to entertainment or something similar then maybe. However it is business or wealth related then it is a poor use of your time and their money.

BTW, one poster mentioned a $30 an hour rate. That's far too low. Start at at least $100. The cheapest attorney at the firm likely makes more than that!

Hey, it was just an example! LOL

Anyway, since she's local to you, drive HELL out of the local sites (yellowbook, G local, Y local) and the Maps section of those sites. Remember to put the address as well as phone # on most pages of the site.

When using the videos (a la Riz) SAY your keyword in the video. YouTube is the 2nd biggest search engine, and they make internal transcripts used for YT searches.

      Best of luck

Looking at this from the law point of view (law student myself I talk to partners often) and of course it is very different between USA and AUS, law firms need to look professional, SOCM can work but it can also make them look tacky which is a bad thing for a law firm.

I would suggest getting the website up, offering SEO as a monthly ongoing thing and organising other sources of advertising for them, if you're good at marketing (not some kid with an internet connection and a few e-books) you could help them structure a complete marketing plan.

Just remember it's a law firm, not some product on offer to flood everyone... it has to have integrity and it has to be clean, if you mess up I bet your arse will be sued and you will regret taking the job.

Good luck with it though, and I'm sure if you have your head screwed on it will work out great!

Im thinking Riz has got some of the best offline advice I have heard in awhile. He really leaves nothing left to say except "Do what Riz is saying".

Attorneys have been good to me personally, they are my favorite kind of clients. Plus they always return your call, and are used to scheduling appointments with people, so asking for an appointment is right up their ally.

Want more Clients...? Everybody already knows what I would tell you but... just for the hell of it. Pick up the phone and do some telemarketing!

Well, if you need to, you can outsource just about everything.

What are the details on the client by the way?

Might have an interesting idea or two depending on the brand.

For starters...Make sure you get the firm listed in as many law related directories as you can. Claim their google places for them and optimize it with the highest ranking keywords. Make sure their on page SEO is optimized. Get quality backlinks...

Congrats on your 1st client. Here's some things you may want to do for them for a monthly retainer :

          1. Create a Google Places account and optimize with keywords, photos, video, coupon and link their website.

          2. Add a auto responder to their site and create a report with 10 common questions people ask the attorney and give it away for their name and email.

          3. Import her past customers and create a referral program via auto responder.

          4. Sign her up with the local directories and optimize with keywords, photos, video and link her site to get citations.

          5. Do SEO, articles, video, backlinking, directory submissions and bookmarking monthly.

          6. Add a blog to her site and update with keyword rich articles regularly.

          7. Add meta tags and page titles with keywords and local city name.

That should be enough to get you started on a nice monthly retainer.
