Outsourcing Question

Hi,

It's my first time being asked to do something that I don't have time for and have a question. The client wants 30 articles added to her static website every month. How do I find someone that can be trusted and relied on? Does anyone have a recommendation? Also, what would be a good amount to pay for this?

Thanks,

Cathy

It depends what kind of client it is. Try to find people on forums or other media that's related to the niche.

Depends on what type of articles the clients wants and the complexity of the topic.

It's easier to find writers for general topics than those for specialized ones.

And don't forget about the profit that you want to make out of the deal.

I'd suggest going to the Warriors For Hire section or one of the many outsourcing boards. Let them know what you want and ask for a sample of their work (which you'll most likely pay for).

I'm currently asking much the same question for what I'm doing and from the research I've done, warriors for hire and elance are reliable places to start. I'm sure there are many sources for good talent but I'd start here.

A good starting point would be to hire people with ezinearticles platinum author status, you can only earn this status by quality writing and not by buying it. It is not as easy to get as you would think. If they claim to have this status then ask them for their ezinearticles user name and check them out on the site e.g. confirm they have done the number of articles they say they have, and check out their articles. I think this would be a reasonable idea to give you confidence in their writing ability

Thanks for the answers. Good suggestions.

The customer already has the articles and wants them added to her site. I have just found out that the site was made for her by someone else and she pays for hosting and maintenance. I suppose the company that built the site would add them for her?

I have thought about offering to build a blog for her and add them to that instead. From an seo viewpoint would this help her site rank as much as adding the articles to her site if the articles linked from the blog back to her site?

Does she want them formatted in a certain way?

Just adding them couldn't take that long, could it?

      Hi Carol,

The formatting is not a problem for the articles, it is just that the site is being managed by another company and they will probably want the business of adding the articles. Also, the site may have to be programmed to add another category to add the articles. The company would have to give me the details to get into the site. This can be complicated, which led me to think that setting up a blog would be so much simpler.

Thanks for answering. I appreciate it.

Oh, I see now. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

It seems a blog would be the easier way to go.

          Hi Cathy,

Outsourcing has really taken off since the rise of the internet. It is a great way to get people more qualified then you to complete work that you need to get done.

That being said, the hardest part about outsourcing is finding a person who is experienced and talented enough to do a good job on the project, but without charging you through the roof. However, there are some resources that will make this a lot easier such as freelance websites.

Freelance websites are a place where freelancers and people looking to outsource projects get to network in on convenient location. It will allow you to judge and compare hundreds of different writers, graphic designers, translators etc. You can look at their portfolios to see if their work matches up to your expectations and get a general sense of what they will charges for the job you have in mind.

There are several of these freelance website, but the two best ones are Elance and Guru. They do not charge any membership fees unless you want to upgrade your membership. They also implement many safety measures to ensure that you don’t get ripped off such as Escrow.

          Best of luck!

I think it wouldn't be as hard as you think to get the permissions for adding to her site.

Your idea about a blog, though, is a good one. The nice thing is, you can add many at once and set them to appear at different times. This is also very easy to outsource in that it's easy to do a quick video showing how you want it done.

Tell her for some extra money you could send teasers to the articles out to her newsletter list (thus they click through to the blog). If she has no list, there's another service you can offer! Once more, it's outsourceable.

Have a go with oDesk as they have to take screen shots regularly throughout the day, and thus you know they are on task.

You could even try Fiverr and similar.

Once you get a good outsourcer, hang on to them! They are not always easy to find. Send the occasional bonus or something you think would be helpful/interesting.

    Good luck!

I must agree with Jacqui. oDesk is my favorite place for finding outsource workers.

However, in your case you might not need those screenshots of their desktop. All you need is to get those articles in your hands.

For article writers I recommend searching here: Warriors For Hire

Most good articles writers have reviews from other Warriors and if the reviews are good then you can't go wrong.

As for the payment - you'll find really good offers on the Warrior forum.

    Good luck!

Thanks for all the great ideas. I will be going over a few ideas with her tonight and let her know her options. It's nice to have an idea about things before the talk!

Post a job opening on a site like Elance.com or Odesk.com (I personally use odesk.com once in a while but i'd rather use a unique resume search feature that was included in an outsourcing course).

Take 5 of job applicants and have them writing you a "test article" on a specific topic for $5 each. Now you have tested 5 different article writers and only spent $25. Compare the article quality and you experience in communicating with the writer and pick one. Success!

I wouldn't recommend going by that although it doesn't hurt to look. I've seen many writers that have platinum status who couldn't write their way out of a paper bag.

hey Cathy you can look for freelancer (dot) com, I recommend. There's a lot of candidates there offering article writing packages at different rates. Just try to keep in touch with them and check out the report samples and you'll be able to negotiate the deal

Cathy try Freelancer- you will get many people that will bid for article writing. Rule of thumb is $1 per 300 words. You will get many people from India or overseas but ask them to give you a sample to determine fit.
