Thanks To John Durham... - In Other Words Get Off Your Butt & Just Do It!
I've tried the email marketing, Craigslist, and classified ads in my local area to no avail.
I've had some telemarketing experience from my past but I initially I really didn't that route. But needing some money real quick, I bucked up and started making my first calls this morning. Could only make about 60 or so calls between babysitting.
I don't remember where I heard it, but found out that John was giving away his "Offline On Crack" in audio format for free.
Downloaded, and listened to it over the weekend. Copied the greeting and pitch down almost verbatim.
The way I collect leads is this. It is kind of tedious but since I don't have a lot of funds, outsourcing right now is out of the question. I only go after "service" based businesses like John suggests.
I go to Google Places and type in my city + keyword. I go through the first 5 pages of listings and look for those companies without a website. Then I go to Manta and search for the company's name so I can get the owners name.
When I call, If the owners name is not listed, I just ask whoever answers the phone, who is in charge of their Internet Marketing, then go into my greeting.
Here are my results today:
40 - No answers/Disconnects/Answering Machine/Owner Not In, etc.
3 - No's
3 - Maybe's
One of the Maybe's, I need to call back this afternoon as she was going out on an appointment. Will see how it goes.
Another Maybe, said he has a website and out of nowhere I asked how that was working out for him and if he was getting any traffic from it. He said he wasn't sure so I said I would take a look at his site and get back to him tomorrow.
The last Maybe, I kinda screwed up on. After the greeting, the owner asked how much a 3-5 page website is. I quoted him and I allowed him to take control of the conversation. He asked for my number and that he would check his schedule and get back to me.
I figure all is not lost though. I should have taken control and told him I would be in the area and give him a couple of options for us to meet and talk.
I will follow up with him tomorrow and tell him I'll be in the area that afternoon or Wednesday and go from there.
Had a question though. Am I calling at the wrong times? I was calling between 10:00 and 11:00 here in California. I sure did get a lot of no answers.
Anyways, this post turned out longer than I thought. I just want to thank John Durham, his Telemarketing Forum, and the WF for all that has given back by its wonderful members.
In closing, all I have to say is this:
HIGH PROBABILITY SELLING BABY!
Have fun,
