A little hiccup to start an offline business - College

As many know there are a ton of young people in the Internet Marketing world and some have started real young (I started at 13 to be exact). Now being 18 it has become much easier for me with experience to rank sites, get them designed, write/get content etc. (not necessarily make a ton of money doing it but I can do it) So I really want to go into the offline world of it all but there is just one little hiccup.... I'm going to a college in the upcoming fall that is 4 states over, and 13 hours away.

Would it even be worth it to go and try doing it here? How could I work it out if I do a monthly payment package. Has anyone had experience working with people out of state or moving to a different state?

Thanks!

I have a couple of clients that are out of state. What I find is that if you are constantly in communication with them and give them constant updates than you shouldnt really have a problem.

I have clients across the country, it is no biggie. Communication plays a big role, and if you have them on monthly maintenance and such, as long as you're keeping up on it then there should be no problems. Do everything through paypal if you want!

Do your clients know that you're in a different state/across the country? Does that take away from your business? How exactly do you keep constant contact enough for them?

      Thank you for the replies!

Yes they do know and they are fine with it. I send them reports of how their campaigns are doing every week or so (which I have automated). And I call once a month to see how things are going. The way I set up my SMS marketing after the initial set up I only need to really have a long conversation with my clients every 90 days or so.

Do you tell them upfront that you are in a different state? Or do you tell them when they ask to meet you? And do you just setup conference call appointments then instead of driving over and meeting face to face if it were local?

          Thanks

You're making this more complicated than it is. You know, you meeting face to face with clients is because you want to, or you think you need to. Every 50 sales I close over the phone, I have one where I might have to meet the person.

I do a lot of web design, for people across the country, they know exactly where I'm located. Last night I even closed a sale, it was midnight my time, but had about a 2 hour conversations with a really interesting guy in oregon. I always keep in touch after their project is complete, that is how I build relationships and get recurring business as well as amazing referrals. He already has tried hooking me up with his daughters LOL!

If you have clients in other states, don't expect a new client to have a problem with it. If they seem like they are kind of down about it, I always tell them we have clients across the country and communication is never an issue.

It depends on the service you are offering... I do a LOT, many different services, and those clients have different needs. I don't know your clients, you will have to judge to see how much "face time" or phone time they require.

Thank you! I don't have any services yet, but I'm in the planning stages of it all and then I thought to myself "Crap, I'm leaving in 6 months to a totally different state, I need advice" So now we're here.

          Thanks again!
