Paying vs building your own

Ok, so I posted something similar 3 days ago and I mentioned my earnings last month and I got not the best feedback ... and after a few minutes.. the post was gone.

So let's try again:

I'm at a moment where my business it's working
I know what I'm doing and the profits are good. Over 10K usually per month.

But like any business there are overheads and expenses.

And every time I pay for a service, I always wonder... what If instead of paying for this service I BUILD my own service.. I build my own network.

Example:

Instead of paying for social bookmarking posting ... why not invest 1K - 2K and build 10-15 solid Page Rank 4 social bookmarking sites... I control and are part of my "Arsenal'.

Instead of paying for Press Release services, I purchase a Google news approved website and stop paying for the service.

My point is... at what point do you think it's smarter to stop spending in "services' and start building your own systems.

Anyone with any similar experience?

I'm not complaining... this is not rant.. I just wonder if anyone think the right path to grow is owning the systems, networks you use, instead of "renting them"....

I would rather build my own than rent it.There are caveats to doing it this way of course.
1)When building it you out the cash money and more than the initial rent will cost
2)While building it you will start to market it of course and early adopters will essentially be your beta testers and run into glitches and problems = egg on your face.

I am sure there are other caveats as well I just haven't run into them yet.

The plus side of building it yourself is you control it totally and you don't have to pay a monthly charge. With what I am doing I have seen rentals as low as $49 to $200 per month. Calcualte that out over a 3 year period. I would have to jack up my rates to charge my consumers making my offer less attractive and when starting out I did not want that monthly 'nut' up front and added to my pile of bills.

This is just my opinion of course and the way I work. It helps that I am a fair coder and can modify code to suit my needs once I find a good example. That saved me ton's in development cost but it took me 2 months to build a real prototype that I then expanded into a real app. Time wise altogether I spent almost 6 months that I could have been selling. If I had it to do over again I would do it the same way. Once your app is solid you can always sell to individuals of course.

    Good luck
