  • I am not sure what your specific need is, but I use basecamp for all my projects and plug my outsource team, as well as my internal team into it. It has a good time tracking feature that is pretty easy to use. That's what I use, but I am sure others will have more to share :-)

    Keep Rockin!

  • Another vote for basecamp and rescue time. I use both. Basecamp handles all your project needs, including time keeping for outsourcers. Rescue Time is great for exposing where all your wasted time goes!
  • I have never used basecamp, but I've heard really, really good things about it...

Also, if you are using eLance.com for outsourcing, they have a really cool time tracker where it takes screen shots of the persons computer screen. This way you can actually have a record of what they were working on and see if they were actually working on your project or just surfing facebook.

    • I have been using Klok for my clients.

I think the feature of the pro version where you can simply upload the data to different web services might be what you need.

You can always try the free version. I liked that it's a time tracking software that's just easy and doesn't make things complicated.

  • I use this time tracking software alongside my team. We all work online and remotely from different parts of the world. So, it just fits our needs because it allows me to track their work hours, the sites they visit and the apps they use.

That also makes me sure that they use their work hours efficiently too. So, in a way it increases our productivity as a team.

  • If you are managing remote workers and want to track that they are working on the things you assign them to do, a time tracking tool like Worksnaps (worksnaps_dot_net) is very useful. It captures vital information of the work including screenshots and user activities and allow you to verify the time worked. It also integrates with Basecamp so that the time can be easily synced to Basecamp.
  • Rescuetime, manictime and projecthamster are some of the best time tracking software.. may be one of this will be helpfull!!!
  • You can get a free freshbooks account and they have heaps of time tracking options for mobile and desktop.

Worth getting for their kick ass invoicing app alone.

I also have rescue time installed but rarely look at it. Nice that it works in the background though.
  • definitely agree with basecamp, give it a try, keeps me super organized with my projects...
  • If you want to do time tracking in a system that makes it incredibly easy to track employee time & attendance, do project costing, or set up clients and prepare data for billing, take a look at Replicon. It's easy to export your time tracking info to QuickBooks, etc. Replicon's software is web-based so you can work from anywhere with an Internet connection. You can evaluate it via a free trial. Full disclosure: I work for Replicon and use its products.

    • OliviaBlue - If you haven't found your time tracking software "perfect fit" yet, I would definitely recommend tsheets.com. It's features are perfect for small or large teams. Good luck!
  • I use Fresh books. I love it. I use it as a time keeper for both internal and external (billable) projects. You can set up clients differently, like one pays a set fee, another pays by the hour.

And then when it comes time to bill them, just click a few buttons and it generates an invoice. You email them the invoice and they can pay by paper check or paypal.

    • I have a slightly different time tracking need and wonder if anyone in this thread using the various tools mentioned can give me some good options.

I do everything myself, so no team. BUT I'm starting to do a lot more consulting AND I multitask a lot AND get interrupted a lot.

So I need sort of a dashboard where I can easily start and stop timers for different clients and track notes of what I did, when.

EXAMPLE: Client 1 15 min research. Client 2 35 min troubleshooting. Client 1 25 more min research and documenting prob. Client 3 15 min crafting email to Google.

Or whatever, but again a quick easy dashboard where I can jump in and out and turn timers off and on for diff clients.

But then it also needs to continue to add to time of each client as I do more work for them and document running list of dates/times I did which projects for each client.

      Any ideas?

  • If you’re a small or medium business owner, have to manage a team of anywhere from 1 – 100 total people scattered across divisions/companies/vendors/clients and need a tool to better communicate, organize and record what needs to get done, then Basecamp is the perfect collaboration tool for you.

Try it out , It is free for 30 days with all features.

  • I would recommend using timesheet's for payroll purpose as it makes the process simpler while calculating payroll. I had worked on creating my own timesheets some years back to calculate time based salary considering hours and minutes. But got stuck with some errors and posted it on certain top forums and never got it solved. Later started using third party cloud based software and it is Project Tracking Software by Replicon Inc.

    Hope it helps...

  • Especially for businesses with overseas branch, an online time tracking software is a must requirement to keep track of the project hours, creating reports and maintain invoices.

I would recommend online time recording software that could be really the best for all your business needs. In fact, it's just the awesome tool any business could actually have!

  • Hiya,

I started using Nutcache a few months ago and find that a really useful tool. I own a small business, so it takes away lots of the annoying housework tasks that I have to do. The software is free, and spans accounting, invoicing, and time tracking. Sounds complicated, but basically it stops you needing to keep paper records, create invoices separately, and track taxes. They also just launched a mobile app.

    Give it a go! <a href="http://www.nutcache.com/features/invoicing.html">

    Katie :-)
  • Got an email about this one a few days ago - https://ding.io/

Here is a write up about it - http://web.appstorm.net/reviews/proj...-time-tracker/
  • Due to the fact that this question was asked quite some time ago I would want to know if you have found a solution? It appears that Basecamp is the big winner. I would be interested in what choice you finally made and if it provided what you were wanting.
  • I can recommend you to go for "orangescrum",
  • Basecamp would be my top pick.
  • I have a few PHP scripts you can use send me a (PM)

    I'm happy to support.

  • As per my knowledge Replicon is the best and the leader in time tracking and management.
  • you may use odesk/freelancer time tracker software. They have api to customize for your own.
  • Hard to believe no one has mentioned Harvest yet. Only been using it for a couple months, but it has done much to help be better understand what my team is doing. Even better, at the end of the month I can properly allocated their time to projects so I know whether I am going over budget or not. Best of all, I realized that my 10 hour+ days were more like 4 hour days haha. Harvest has really great functionality, but it will cost you.
  • I'd personally recommend hubstaff for project management due to its integration with other management apps like Basecamp, Jira, Freshbooks etc. It can also track activity on the contractor side, take random screenshots generate detailed reports and allows for an unlimited number of projects to be added without any additional cost. Additional info about the app can be found at their website at https://hubstaff.com

    • My solution for time tracking is different. I use BaseCamp for project notes, assignments, and project tracking. Every agent has Gmail. We have templates of spreadsheets with the equations for time tracking put in, then shared from the supervising agent's account to the rest of the team. The team members then track their time in the boxes like: 15:12 in one box(3:12pm) and 15:20(3:20pm) in the next box. The spreadsheet then tallies all the time at the bottom of the spreadsheet, and the team members get paid accordingly.
  • You should definitely take a look at TimeSheet Reporter (TimeSheet Reporter - Time Reporting in Your MS Outlook Calendar - TimeSheet Reporting Made Simple), which allows you to track time via your Outlook calendar (and also via web and smartphone).

    NB. I'm affiliated.

    Cheers.

  • Been using Harvest for the longest time, but have started to make the move to Toggl. Have found so far that Toggl isn't quite as flexible as I would have hoped, but their support team has been helping me figure out creative ways to make it work. Harvest was just too much, and too expensive for what it was IMO.
  • You can try to use TimeDoctor, it is some kind of time tracking software too.
