Finding a good list broker

I'm in the process of putting together a marketing campaign involving direct mail. As I've done my research on the subject, I know that the list is the most important asset. As such, I'm looking for a good list broker. I've searched google, but as you and I both know appearing at the top of a search result doesn't mean they're good. I've also searched WF, but to no avail.

Do any warriors have experience with list brokers? Is it something that has geographical boundaries? Since I'm looking to mail in the UK, does that mean I should exclude US brokers?

Any help much appreciated.

The only one I've used and trust is Hilite. I've met Mike the chairman many years ago at an event. They supply many of the 'big' direct marketers in the UK like Andrew Reynolds and Tim Low.

    Here's a link:-

    Thanks for the replies!

I'll look into nextmark, and start with some email contact with others.

I've come across Hilite in my search, and you mentioning that you've used them helps.. (Social proof at it's best)

I suppose in the end it's going to be trial and error. It's be nice to eliminate as much error to begin with. Will update with any progress.

How did you get on with finding a decent list broker? Did you have much success?

    I would also recommend Hilite.

Years ago when working for one of the biggest direct mail guys in the industry I noticed that after using his in house list Hilite where always used to scale up campaigns.
