Video rent/lease model

Hi Offline Warriors,

Has anyone tried the rent/lease model for videos. I am thinking of adding videos to offline business and charging a monthly fee to rank and maintain on the first page.

I want the recurring income more than the one off video production fee.

Any advice.

Once you create these video's I am wondering where will you put them?

Will you create a youtube page for your local offline client or upload them to their already existing website?

I'm thinking along the lines of a youtube channel. This way I could offer further videos for different products or services later. Video is a great way to get on the first page.

This happens to be one area that I'm good at. I'll give you a few little tidbits from my own experience...

      1. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Luckily, I've only had 1 account terminated (DailyMotion) and it was after only a few videos uploaded.

      2. I typically create a YouTube, DailyMotion, and MetaCafe channel - in my experience, these are the big dogs that actually rank on the front page. DailyMotion tends to rank faster if done correctly, but YT of course, seems to be good for the long haul.

      3. Make sure you take a REAL look at the competition. Normally, you're biggest challenge will be trying to outrank Google Places - that will take time. But it's pretty easy (in most cases) to get a video to "the 1st page of Google".

      4. As I mentioned, ranking is not usually the problem, it's finding someone who is willing to PAY to rent the video. Unlike a website, most businesses just don't get the benefits of video marketing - in regards to brand exposure and converting traffic.

For example, I have SEVERAL videos in all different niches on the 1st page of G above the fold. These are optimized for Exact Match traffic keywords where the specific niche has a high customer per transaction value. And yet, it's like "pulling teeth" to get a potential client to fork over $$$ to "just rent a video". They tend to want a website.

      Good Luck,

      - Shockwave

I also am fairly heavily focused on video marketing (thus my company name). Shockwave has some good points. I would add to the mix, that hosting yourself has advantages as well. You have a lot more control. A few positives:
    1) you can pick your thumbnails (on YT they only let a select few have this option)
    2) you don't have to worry about accounts being closed
    3) no advertising, no distractions from competitor's videos

The main downside, aside from more effort to get ranked, is that you are paying for hosting.
