Getting my name on shirts

I have a medium sized software company with 4 employees. I would like to have some custom polo shirts with my URL on the back, has anyone done anything like this? What websites offer the best deals on this type of service?

Has anyone had any positive/negative experiences in this arena? Have there been any unexpected responses in terms of new business/brand recognition/etc?

I ordered some polos for my company last year. Process went pretty smoothly overall. We had a problem where we wanted some text along the bottom but it turned out to be too small to show up well using stitching. We ended up just shortening the text and it looks great.

We put our URL on the back below the collar (called a "Locker Patch") so people would instantly know how to find us. I don't know how much traffic it actually drives but it sure doesn't hurt.

Embroidery really is better (looks better, lasts longer, etc) but there is a conversion process where you give them your logo and they digitize it so most places charge a setup fee for that. We ordered the polos from GearOne because they were the only ones we found that didn't charge a setup fee and had good deals on some of their shirts (after shopping on Google shopping and price comparing, etc). Turned out really well.

I can post a picture of our shirts if you want (free exposure for my company doesnt hurt eh?)

I am pretty sure Vistaprint does this. VERY solid firm in my opinion. I didnt like the finish on my business cards recently and they resent the whole order in a different finish for free (probably because I send them customers from offline stuff).

Consider putting more than LOGO, URL etc...think OFFER, HEADLINE, USP, SOLUTION and more important a tested CALL TO ACTION.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

Screen printing is a little expensive for very short runs ad you need to make the screens for each color. Often you can do short runs much cheaper in sublimation, but that has to be done on a white or light colored garment as sublimation actually dyes the fabric.

One company that does short runs like this is cafepress.com. They offer a business package where you can sell the garments you design and they will take orders for just one piece at a time if necessary.

    rentItNow:

VistaPrint specializes in business cards and printing. Their embroidery services pretty much suck. If you look the only offer one type of polo, compare that with something like GearOne that specializes in it and you get the idea. Also I dont even think they do custom logos for embroidery, just a list of images and you can only change the text.

Short version: VistaPrint for business cards, look elsewhere for embroidery.

I do volunteer work for a non-profit organization and we get a LOT of things embroidered. Everything from hats to shirts to jackets. We use Plain Jane Promotions in Chino,California. They do great work and are very reasonably priced. They don't have a website, but you can find them at superpages.com

You might want to check out cafepress too. I was looking into them for a project earlier this year. I didn't end up using them but they specialize in small runs so you might have some luck there.

Queensboro is good, I've had experience with them and their stuff is durable. They're on the east coast. Not sure if location is important to you.

I agree with RentItNow... put your name/logo on there, but definitely put your USP on the shirt as well.

Speaking as a former programmer, here....

I've had the "polo shirt uniform" foisted off on me at work. It gave us all a nice "similar" look in the office, but it wasn't really morale boosting and we wore them in the office. If we happened to visit a client, the company name was on the shirt so it looked official.

But the shirts didn't bring in any business or raise awareness of it.

How do i make my own t shirts for a clothig line?

After the trademark process and finalizing my own company name and logo, where would i go to get professionally made t shirts with my design on it. I would need around 500 shirts made. I've been on customink.com but i don't like how they have the brand name shirts like Hanes and Gildan, and where the tag usually is it says one of those names. I want just plain blank tees with a tag of my company's name, not another.

    1. HerbM: gearone.com was awesome, I got some jackets and hats and they turned out fantastic. Shipping was fast and I was able to speak with the owner.
    2. marcyjohn: I actually spoke with them about t-shirts and they don't have them on the website because he said screen printing is a more involved process that needs verbal communication. Go ahead and call them at 1.800.762.6786 and ask about whatever t-shirt deals they may have right now.

This is a great idea, you should also do pens, mugs, mouse pads, etc etc and hand them out to local businesses!
