I have heard of people using Groupon and sites like it to prospect other businesses, but has anyone here used Groupon or other sites like it to offer a deal on your own offline consulting business?

If so, did it work for you?

What types of deals did you use?

    I can field this one...

    DON'T DO IT!

    Reasons,

    1) Groupon expects...and requires at least a 50% Discount Offer

    2) Of that 50% Off, they will take 50% of Remaining as their fee leaving you with 25%

    3) You wont see what little money you have coming for 6 to 8 weeks

    As an alternative...Check out signpost.com. They are backed by Google Ventures. they only take $99.00 per month and it comes out of sales and there is no upfront cost. If you dont sell...they dont make any money...you owe nothing

    If you choose to put the offer out to their partner sites they will charge an additional $15%...out of sales from those partner sites.

    Oh, and Signpost pays on the 1st and 15th....MUCH faster than Groupon.

      These are all reasons why Groupon's terrible for businesses.
      I wouldn't use it for anything time intensive.
      If I were to use it though, I'd do something like Facebook page design and optimization that takes like a half hour to set up and design (usual, $99, so $25/client).

      Then, work the clients on the upsell.
      If the deal goes critical mass you'll probably be able to get at least one $1000 web design client.

      Signpost lis a much better deal than Groupon but first check out their faq. If you have a brick and mortar location than go for it. Here's why:
      "Signpost works with a large number of businesses across the nation, ranging from restaurants and salons to gyms and more. We can only run a campaign for a US business that sells directly to consumers and has a location where consumers can go to redeem their vouchers."
