Offline Keyword Research -I Need Some Pointers

I am just about to get an offline website/seo business jumped off in the next few days and I have been doing a lot of Google searches based on the professions of potential clients (lawers in xyz town) and I have gotten a good bit of people that could use the service.

I was wondering the best way to research the daily, weekly, monthly searches for local data. I am using MS right now but it has some weird numbers and the local data is often a bit weird to deal with. Also, it usually has really high PBR and I am never really sure how reliable the info is.

I want to be able to talk to a client and say "Look, 380 people do a search for lawyers in this town a day. You have no website, so you are getting none of that."

I am just not exactly sure how to get that number and be able to explain it's origin with confidence. Any suggestion is highly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Google only release those details every 3 months or so. This means that the data is never 100% accurate but what I would do If I were you is print a copy of the exact match searches per month for your keyword from google adwords keyword tool. Then just divide it by the days in the month.

You don't even need to tell him how many people are searching for lawyer & come out with those screen shots...
What is better: tell you , did you know that every day thousands of people look for what they want from internet because they are confused where to go? & they will trust the results that Google introduce to them first..I can get you top there & bring you many clients. I trust what I do & if you want I can bring you customers & take you commissions.

If I relied on data to make sales it would never happen. Not enough searches to really show anything.

A perfect example is a contractor in a very specific niche in my area. Keyword tools showed no searches for any of his keywords. He is actually getting about 50 visitors to his site a month.

Does not seem like much does it?

He was running a 1/4 page ad in a classified ad paper. No calls for 1 1/2 years. 1st month his site was up he got 7 calls.

Numbers are not everything. I have a client with less then 40 searches per month for their niche.

It's so specialized that very few people look for it however his average client spends $15k for the service.

yea. I just learned myself that numbers arent important. whats important is that you think like the "consumer". As a consumer you wouldnt just type in "lawyer atlanta", would you?

you would probably say something like "affordable divorce attorney in atlanta". probably wont see any searches for it but you can bet someone will type that. i know i will.

the wso that i just bought confirmed what i was already thinking.

I recommend to go with google insight and google adword tools data. Google insight have features of finding local top keywords. It will shows you the keywords which people search on the web. You don't need to do lots of brainstorming. Combined Google insight data and adword data and finalize the most searches keyword on the web.

Target that keywords for promoting your business online. The best way to enter into local business is to know what people are looking for. Serve them their required product at affordable price so it will automatically boost your business.

numbers can still convince him, but it don't need in providing any proof. Or you can give him a monthly statistic and calculate average earnings

Do your clients ask for numbers? Do they even know what they mean?

What they need to know is that when people do search for something related to their business in their area (not town, but area), that their site will be one of the first to come up.

The keywords will help you in knowing who you can get ranked, but they usually mean nothing to your clients.
