Is anyone interested in M-a-N-T-a data? NO I am selling it as WSO or service. Just wanted to give some people some free data

I was just looking for a Manta scraper when I spotted this thread.

Manta information is already free, so I am curious about what you are actually offering. With a few search operators, you can find most anything. However, it would be nice to be able to compile all of that data in to a spreadsheet of sorts.

    Why.......do you have a scraper?

I'd consider paying the $99/month to view newly created businesses if I knew it was going to be worth it beforehand.

It is here too.. People just don't use it to volume it seems like. I've had about 10-12% bad information with manta. I have noticed so far using infofree it's about 5-8%

I use Manta data to harvest business owners who don't have websites.

I am really looking to try InfoFree but it seems it won't be use to me unless I find a different reason to contact the business owners besides asking them if they need a website created.

People on infofree don't have websites either...

          BUT

You're looking at it wrong... people with websites are prequalified because they understand the importance of having one... RARELY is someone HAPPY and CONTENT with how their website looks and functions.

Infofree is great for me so far with cold calling and direct mailing.

            Yea, you're right.

I just saw it as them thinking "I paid XXXXXXX $500 for my website why should I pay you another $500 to redesign it?"

But of course that's where a good salesman comes in and can talk them into it.

How are your direct mail efforts to potential clients coming along?

Any results yet you care to share?

Yes, by the way, I AM in the Witness Protection Program. I could tell you who I am but then I would have to kill you.

Not really... still doing some testing... staying steady at 1% response. We have another few thousand going out tomorrow morning but I expect the same results. After a couple weeks we have a new postcard which I anticipate will double the response.. we'll see though. I thought this round was going to bring me about 2%.. but I was wrong lol.

ROI though is 700% so far

                700%?

As an old friend of mine in the real estate business used to say, that is still "good enough."

I can scrape entire states in just days. Honestly try scraping manta data. When you notice that company names, phone numbers, business owner names stop showing up then you know your burned already.

Ah the "oops" screen from Manta

I've been toying around with delays inside my program and can so far run up about 500 results before the captcha screen appears. The hardest part was deciding on the delays and I went with $random ones in the end.

Scraping Manta isn't all that difficult, it's when they make minor changes that can cause the scraping process to "break". However, when you design the program yourself it's relatively easy to find the problem.

Here's a screenshot of my scraper running in debug mode. Notice I have it set to gather the results of 100 listings, one page deep. Gone to 2 pages and I'd have 200 results and so on.

I really like how Manta lets you gather businesses Twitter ID and Facebook page URL as well as their email addy. The good thing though is that you can "prime" your results to only show Manta claimed listings.

If you have proxy integration with multiple, browser ID strings, you can scrape manta's face off.

But if the data isnt accurate and you send a letter to Mr Brown, who actually died 2 years ago, it sucks ! Especially when his daughter now runs the place! (no that didnt happen)

Inaccurate or outdated data can be a problem, regardless. You just have to keep pushing through - just like you do after someone tells you 'no'.

Are you using a custom program to harvest the data or just Places Scout?

Cringer, does your program scrape and return the data faster than Places Scout (If you have it)?

I am interested in making a program like yours but wondering if it's worth the time for me.

Due to the delays I have in place it takes anywhere from 2 to 6 secs per page. Seems to be holding well. If you're programming it the delays and captchas is where a lot of your time will be spent

    Hey,
i'm working on an application that scrapes manta now.
Everything is easy except their security. After a couple of requests they block me. Proxies are a solution, but not the best.

How did you scrape it ?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[6325584].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author Matthew Iannotti
I particularly like how they let you filter a search to get ultra-targeted results. Cringer is right, extracting from Manta isn't all of that difficult, in fact, the new PLPX-20 users will not even need a proxy to extract unlimited amounts of data as we have successfully reverse engineered their entire protection system

Manta is most def one of the better sites to get leads from just as I said earlier, allowing you to drill down to a target audience.

    Cheers!

I wanted a Manta scraper, but not interested in paying a lot for it- because of some of the various reasons stated in this thread. Plus, sometimes I am looking for specific info. that scrapers just don't have.

It's all (seemingly) up to the programmer, not necessarily business minded/sales minded people.

For example, no where here has the person in the poll asked what would you want scraped...a lot of the answers, of course would be the same, but I am sure there would be a few gems that the creator him or her self hasn't thought of.

For example, there are yp scrapers that will give you leads from paid ad customers.
For manta, they have levels of ads. Can I have the scraper only give me leads with X paid ad type?

Anyway, I do hope something reasonable comes along in the way of a reliable, inexpensive Manta scraper. AND hopefully any inaccuracies in the returned data will be the fault of Manta's only, not the scraper/programmer of the scraper.

Make me kinda wish I was a programmer...but I'm not.

Yes, I have the solution you seek. If you are no programmer, I can train you to program and scrape sites like manta in no time. Fairly easy.
