Quick direct mail question

When you're prospecting and sending a personalized report to places that have several partners, who do you send it to? ie dentists, attorneys, home inspectors

Is there any way other than calling to figure out who the decision maker is? I also know a lot of these places have office managers.

Thanks for the info.

i tend to send to the main partners/bosses... the more they know about our letters, the better...

as for finding out who the decision maker is, you can your sec of state website, google it, or buy a commercial list....

First, you need to understand that I’ve personally done direct-mail and I’ve wasted my own money, so please understand that in condemning this idea as “insane”, I’m also condemning myself. But when it became apparent that it was a bad idea, I quit doing it. As Will Rogers so eloquently put it, “When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.”

mail it to the managing partner, you can usually find this on their website or if you are using a service (InfoUSA) they have the bosses name. Or you can mail to the manager and 2+ other partners, so if your letter does not peak the interest of the manager a partner may be interested and decides to recommend contacting you.

When I don't know who to address it to, I've had good luck looking on the website for contacts. If that fails, and my list is small, I call and ask them who to send an information pack to. If they give me a gatekeeper, I send a bulky pack, not just a letter, include screen captures of their website, SERPs, competitors and provocative questions, that usually gets it to the right desk. Then call a week later and the office usually knows who it's gone to.

I'm only doing that on a good list like folks I know have spent a significant sum advertising and I know their website isn't ranked.
