Genius email obtaining strategy?

You guys I just thought of this, and I'm sure it's an amazing idea. Could I just call up restaurants and ask for their email addresses? Then cold email them? Then call them back in a day or two to see if they got my email?

Only reason I'm so dead set on emailing is because I bought WillR's sms landing page wso, and I'm sure it can get some great conversions. So what do you guys think about just calling them up and getting the email?

    That would take forever.

Just grab a good email scraper. Mobile Renegade will work great with his WSO because it tells you if the site is mobile optimized or not.

    I'm done fighting this battle.

Go ahead and try it, and see how much money you make. If someone were to call and ask me for my email, I'd think it was something scammy. Only amateurs resort to email over instant communication.

That was a low blow iAmNameless, but I know you're right. I understand the potential of cold calling, and all that it offers. I'm not saying I don't care about that, I just want to test out the potential of this landing page. If it doesn't work after 100 emails, so what. I've given it a try. I've cold called and gotten great success, I'm not running away from calling and resorting to emails, I'm giving this landing page method a try.

Well, sorry if you took it personally, that wasn't my intention.

I mean, you already said if it doesn't work after 100 emails, it is basically a failure. That's the problem.... you can't judge what works or doesn't in just a 100 sample size. You need about 10,000 before you even have an idea of what works.

Now, think about how ridiculous this sounds... you call the business, and ask for their email address, send them an email, expecting them to not only open it, but click the link, and not only click the link, but read below the fold to see everything you have to offer, and then call you. Of course, you're probably going to call and follow up which would mean 200 calls total of 100 prospects and you're not really selling them, you're giving them an out to get off the phone and get back to managing their business.

It's cool that you're trying, but if you're only doing a sample size of 100, you can't tell if it's successful or not. You need a much higher sample size.

Remember, it isn't what someones results are in a WSO... that doesn't matter at all. If one person makes money with a method, it doesn't mean it's a good method. Not knocking on Will or anything, just saying, the only results that matter are your own.

You say so what, if it doesn't work... If you really feel that way, that's cool, but how can you not care if something works? Why not do something proven?

cold calling vs. emailing = it doesn't matter. I didn't come in this thread to be an advocate of cold calling, just came in because you're working against yourself.

Getting a business owner's attention is already difficult enough, if you have them on the phone find out if they're interested or not right then and there. That's much better than asking their email, hoping they open it and actually read it. I'm not against emails... if there is a stubborn gatekeeper that won't let me through, I'll ask for the email and sometimes it leads to big things.

Email isn't useless at all, but in this method, I think you're working against yourself, that's all. But I definitely do wish you a lot of success.

Emailing has a low conversion rate. If you want to work with restaurants, you need to go in and build a relationship with the GM or Owner. Trust me....I have managed many restaurants accounts over the past 5 years.

Any advice on how to build the relationship?

The only reason I'm looking to try this landing page out, is because it has video involved. It's something easy for them to do, they don't have to read. Like you said I'm not too worried about wasting time because it's only 100 emails, if I did 10,000 going against the grain then i'd be concerned for time or failure. So if I get even two conversions from 100 emails, that's comparable to most cold callers.

but if you only do 100 emails, and you were just a "one word tweak"
away from a successful email, and the 151st email would be the one to
prove to you that you were on the right track...

      what then ?

100 of anything in the marketing world just isn't enough ...
be it phone calls, emails, post cards or any kind of traditional
      advertising.

It is possible your expectations for returns are a bit skewed, you
may want to do some research.

you might start by asking people what there returns are.
