Craigslist Help

If anyone could please help me, I have two different questions. After looking for hours I haven't found a suggestion that works. Thanks will be given to all who help


Problem 1 - Everyday when posting my craigslist accounts with my 1 account (only post 3 per day) it make me re-register my phone. I only have one phone that will work with it, which is blocking me from scaling up with 5 total accounts, 3 ads per day.

I was going to use what IAMNAMELESS suggested with the pay phones but if i'm having to re-register my one account daily or every other day, it will make the payphone idea very time consuming, having to run around town for payphones every day.

So the first problem is being able to have 3-5 active, phone registered accounts.



Problem 2 - Say I get a 2nd or third account on CL, how am I supposed to advertise my link to my website for services if after a few ads, normally 2-3 it bans the link? I have tried making people copy and paste the link, that works for a few ads before getting banned. Link shorteners are not allowed. The only thing I could think of was a picture but not too sure if that would be banned over time as well.

Any solutions?

    How about buying a few extra URLs and forwarding them to your main site? If you can post 3 ads per day per url per account. 3 additional URLS and 4 accounts should allow you to post 12 ads per day.

    Well sometimes you do and sometimes you don't I posted adds 2 days ago made me verify, same acct posted 3 ads today made me verify again.

    Yeah definitel, I guess no one else has any advice on Problem 1? I have scoured google and these forums for hours. Besides buying like a sprint family plan or 4 more telephone number, I have no idea what to do with this.

    Yeah, I have no clue. I haven't used CL in years. The last time I used it, you could post as much as you like as long as the ads weren't identical or else it was auto flagged.

    Yes, you used to have to change the percent of unique content but that was it.

    hey Mav,

    This is interesting. I just logged in to my old CL account to test the postings out. I only had to verify my phone number once. The first 2 postings had to be confirmed via email by clicking a button, and the next 3 were published immediately without having to confirm.

    Are you posting from an account (ie. Craigslist Account), or are you just posting as an anonymous guest?

    Not really sure why mine are going through so seamlessly while you're having to phone verify each of your posts. Could it be that you're not posting from within an account?

    No no, I don't have to verify each post, I said once a day. Sorry about the confusion. The reason why verifying every day is a nuisance is because I'd need 3-4 additional accounts. Having to verify each of those every day.

    Problem 1 - you account is no longer good... if you really look at the category listings you will likely notice most, if not all, your ads are being ghosted. NEXT TIME it asks you for your phone number, ignore the account entirely. It is time to get a new account. Use a different email, and you can use the same number. When it continues to ask for your number, it releases your number when it goes to the verification screen. Log out, clear your cookies, and create a new account.

    Problem 2 - URLs don't normally get banned. The problem is likely to be your posting velocity. ALWAYS clear craigslist cookies before switching accounts. When craigslist does ban a URL(which is VERY rare), they don't block it at the domain level. http://yourwebsite.com and http://www.yourwebsite.com are two different things, one can be banned and the other may not be. Once they block both versions, I add a subdomain... like http://webdesign.yourwebsite.com and have it forwarded to the main website. Make sense?

    Yeah perhaps my link wasn't getting banned and it was just the account. It became difficult to get two ads to stick yesterday, in a city I really didn't want.

    If your account is in good shape will it request verification a lot? Because I was going to use payphones like you suggested in an earlier thread, as long as I didn't have to run around all the time for verification use.

      Also looks like pre-paid phones are against CL policy. I read that on the page where I verified my listing earlier.

      First of all there is a lot of information being passed around but guys we must
      start with what we know is correct then work from there.

      1. Pre paid phones DO work.
      VIOP phones don't
      Magic Jack don't
      2. Post in your local are area first to see what goes up
      or gets ghosted. If it gets ghosted on your local ip
      It's your ad content. Spam phrases in your ad or
      the ads is worded to close to a previous ad you posted.
      You can't just copy someones ad and hope yours goes live.
      3. Regular links ARE NOT the problem.
      4. CL hates url shortners so don't use them.
      5. If you have to verify a lot you are trying to post outside your local area
      to far from your ip address.
      To post outside your local area and avoid ghosting you must be able to match your ip address whit your desired posting location.

      I think some of your issues could be unique to the sections you're posting in.

      I only post in the cars by dealer section for part of my day job. I'm here trying to add more tips and tricks to what I've researched already. Here is what I've learned so far, hopefully it can be helpful to someone.

      -I have 32 email accts/CL accts where only a handful are phone verified. I used a prepaid phone plan recently(phone takes different sim cards)and it worked fine. Other than that I've been using direct lines around the office. My CL accts that aren't PVA'd have no more than 10 ads that I renew usually. The ones I've phone verified have a little over 20 to renew.

      -I don't change my IP. Mostly because I only post in one main city. I don't want to pay for proxies and in my opinion CL has blacklisted any free ones you can find. If I did change my IP, it would be specific to the geography I'm posting. (I've heard of people using dial up modems to swap IPs everytime they connect/reconnect).

      -The only text in my ads other than the titles and locations is a random character string of upper and lower case characters as well as numbers. I've used a photoshop template to create a image that has all my text and photos. When the image is clicked you're then forwarded to my landingpage(the image usually has "click here" buttons or a faux text box).


      I post about 100-120 ads per day and I would say I have at least a 98% success rate. We also have a outside that posts 600+ ads a day in the cars by dealer section. I'm pretty sure he uses some of the techniques I've described in addition to something like CLadgenius.

      You might also want to consider the possibility of a competing marketer flagging your ads.

        Urls don't get banned at all. Neither accounts do. It's only ads that get ghosted, so if that happens- wait a couple of days( sometimes you don't even have to wait) , may be- change the ad a bit, or pick another city, submit the same phone with the same account and that's it.

        No... not true, accounts get banned and if he continues to trip up the ghost algorithm then his account will be banned and the number he used on the account will be locked up for up to 6 months. How do I know? Experience, it has happened to over 10 of my accounts.

        Deleting the ghosted ads does not help. It sometimes renews your account as far as ghosting goes. The ads are never really deleted out of the craigslist system, they remain in there. Deleting the ghosted ads only benefits you when you are renewing ads, it helps you not waste time renewing ghosted ads since mass renewing will ghost good ads as well.

        When your account gets to the point that it requests phone verification daily, or every other day, it's time for a new account. Why should you do that? Because your account is now in high risk mode of being spam, prohibited or violation of the terms of use with Craigslist. When it asks for phone verification like that, its best to keep posting until the next time it asks, and then you leave it blank, log out, clear your cache and craigslist cookies, and create a new account.

        NOW... URLs being banned. Yes, they do get banned. Affiliate links...? Short URLs? Yes..., BANNED!

        How does this happen? It is placed into their content spam filter. What this does is trigger certain chains of words, certain links and applies any use of it into ghosting hell.

        For example... I have a URL that was placed in that filter... but craigslist has a flaw with their filter, that if you create a subdomain then it no longer pulls you into ghosting land... but the original domain will remain in there.

        I have a phone number that I can not enter into ads without putting spaces or formatting it in a certain way. Nobody can.. It happens.

        Anyway... you want to call me out in another thread? Fine... but get your facts straight. Don't call yourself a Guru hunter when you're just a misinformation junkie wanting 15 minutes of fame.

          The moment you start cross-posting, your account is already in high risk mode, so it's pointless to make 10 000 accounts, but to go around the system with the one you already have.

          So, as I said before you got me banned- You really don't know anything, do you?

              Well not that you need someone to vouch for you (because you don't) but for all those reading...I know that iAmnameless does know tons about posting in craigslist. If you search, you can easily see his ads. I seen his advice and he has been knowledgeable in this area for a good amount of time already.

              Also, given post count and reputation, whose advice about craigslist would you take? It's a no-brainer.

                DUDE... it is an AFFILIATE LINK... do you REALLY not even understand what the empower network is? Just because you get your own affiliate page on there, doesn't mean it isn't an affiliate link.

                I never tried getting you banned. You did that all on your own. I don't know any mods here.

          Well put.. And I have gone through all of the same things to verify what you said here. Do you have any idea if they block tracker codes in CL post at all?

            I have used CL ad tracking and not get ghosted but I had more success not useing the tracking and a non-clickable image ad. Different accounts can behave differently.
            You have to try different methods to be successful on Craigslist today.

          Any keywords/text is in the title. One big concern I had was craigslist flagging keywords like the name or phone number of the company I work for. I put all of that specific information in the images in order to help guard it.

          As far as information specific to what we're selling, I put that in the title in order for my ads to show up in any search results.

        The for sale section will allow that many post per day with out much problems. It the job sections that are the tough sections..

      Mav, just wanted to give you an update.... Looks like one of my postings in New Orleans may have been ghosted, but I could have just clicked the wrong button when I posted the other day, as the other 5 went up in cities across the country no problem.

      edit: Scratch that... just found my new orleans posting from the other day.

      Just logged back into my account and posted again. Exact same ad & exact same verbiage to one of the 6 cities I initially posted, and it went through without any confirmation... you may need to just create another account.

      Yeah, it's just one account... If I were to use multiple accounts, I'd look for some way to use proxies. Not sure that would help, but that's where I'd start. ie. hidemyass.com and other sites similar.

      Geez... you would think that craigslist being a national website would allow postings in unlimited cities for stuff that's "for sale", since it would help those looking for shiz to buy. Friggin idiots.

        There was an entire forum devoted to Craigslist posting on another website, before the forum was shut down.

        It's difficult to sum up everything you need to know to post on Craigslist in multiple cities effectively, but what's worked for me is to have a few PVAs (Phone Verified Accounts) and to use each account for one city or time zone.

        Also, post using an IP local to the city you're posting in (a whole thread could be devoted on how to do this).

        Lastly, vary your content in each ad, and try as much as possible to make the ad look like it was posted by an average user. Hopefully myself and the other friendly folks here can help with any specific problems.

    LOL I post over 300 craigslist ads a day if your having problems with 1-2 accounts you need to read up and just start buying numbers somewhere so you can post all you want, I would pm with help but I am new here, i recommend if your serious about CL getting some software because it will make you free money all day every day after the initial investment.

    Tracfone works for me. 10 bucks.
    Definitely change IP's and only post in cities near the IP.
    Clear cookies
    Every ad should be unique
    Either buy url's for forwarding or make an image ad with the url on it

    My lord this already been a helpful thread! Looking in to craigslist advertising myself and I've been having real trouble finding information.

    Anyone know how i can make multiple accounts? All I need to do is post about 10 posts per day spread in three different locations. I just don't want to get banned is all.

      Thanks for the additional info, Nameless.

      The posting style I developed is similar to the strategies Nameless is describing. Although I only post locally, I've had a very excellent success rate of my ads not being ghosted, nor have my URLs or accounts been banned.

    CL SUCKS NOWADAYS!

    One particular person kept flagging a post, 3 times over and now everything with that account gets ghosted. Then I accidentally used that phone with a different PC, and BAM ...again ghosted.


    Everything about your accounts have to be clean.

    Never used phone number, no flags, new IP, etc.

    Really a hassle. Unless of course you are paying for an ad.

    There filters have become ruthless and there system updates constantly looks for variances.


    Not even worth the time.

    I might be able offer you guys a solution on VOIP.

    Look up CallRail - see if you can get 10 phone numbers & have them forward to your phone.

    Fairly Cheap & you can recycle phone numbers.
