Haaaaa! Undercover Boss show - Cold calling!

I am watching "Undercover Boss" on TV.

The owner of one of the largest hotel chains in the world is going undercover to work in different positions at his company to find out what people do...

So he comes into one as a " Corporate Sales Rep"... The sales manager asks . do you have any sales experience?

He says "not really" , so the guys says "Alright we are going to do some cold calling"... so he hands the corporations ceo a cold list and this guy makes a cold call...Off a "Script", and gets rejected, and the sales manager says "That was actually a pretty good call", and the owner of this large corporation says "That was a good call? I just got rejected"

...and the guy replies what?

He says, "no you are doing good, it takes about a hundred calls to get a lead..."

I love that! lol

Its just what we teach here, and now seeing it confirmed on national television... A major corporate giant, going undercover into his own company, and the first thing he is asked to do is cold calling large corps trying to sell them hotel discounts is a "corporate sales person".with a :"script" lol.

Another cool thing is that he really respects the sales manager for what he does.

I love it Jon, it just proves that everything we say is "how its done". I dont need it proven to me., but alot of people say it doesnt work, and they just refuse to play by successes rules but- "Thats how its done."

    Edit:

OMG you have to fight back the tears on this show when you see how these people are moved by the breaks he gives them at the end.The human kindness.

All that money and they train individually in a QUIET office setting?

    and no predictive dialer....

just goes to show, even if your a major player in your industry and have tons of money,
you can still be an amateur when it comes to sales.

It's a great show, I know the episode you are talking about that sales guy that was teaching the CEO definitely had the attitude and confidence for cold calling. A lot of people wish they had that touch to go about Cold Calling.

Undercover Boss has a predictable flow to it now. The boss spends the day with some of his employees who are usually being paid a very low wage. The boss then hears a sad story of how they are struggling to get by with their low pay and tears flow. At the end of the show, the boss does something nice for the featured employees and looks like a hero in an attempt to have the last impression of the business be a giving one. As for the numerous other employees being run ragged for a paltry wage and their problems? SHHHHH, boss man doesn't want to hear about em'. He isn't going to help everybody. Just those on camera.

He's helping them all by employing them.

I think this post wasn't so much about the show itself, but proof for those feeling iffy about cold calling.

This is the line I thanked you for. Being an opportunity creator is being an contributor to life... Even if your model affords you to only create small opportunities, they are meaningful to the people who need them.

Yeah, I noticed that too. After cleaning out toilets that boss was bound to look at a day with ANY sales manager with a degree of appreciation.

    Sometimes the "No" question works.

Like the classic one for door to door insurance. It's about qualifying them out and getting to the customers you can help. If 99/100 are going to say no the argument can be made that you need to make them say no fast and move on to the next. It's one school of thought.

I love the part where he got stuck in the elevator. He should have got out his cell phone and started cold calling while waiting for a rescue!
